In a side by side comparison, this video shows the difference between the performance of a Near-IR Illuminated camera system and a Dual Channel (Night Thermal & Day Color CCD) system (Accuracii).

The Discoverii system is configured with a 12.5 - 750mm continuous zoom lens and is optimized to "see" only the near-IR energy provided by Discoverii's continuous wave laser illuminator. This model also has a 135mm thermal add-on camera for threat awareness.

The Accuracii camera system is configured with a standard day/night block camera with a 3.4 - 122.4mm lens and no external illumination source. The second channel on Accuracii is an uncooled 17 micron 640 x 480 thermal imager with a 25 - 225mm continuous zoom lens.

The standard day/night block camera is the same as is used in most outdoor dome camera systems for commercial security.

This video is meant to demonstrate that a) standard day/night camera modules (in typical outdoor dome cameras) provide poor performance at night, b) thermal cameras are great for detection tasks but poor at providing critical scene details, and c) illuminated camera systems provide poor performance for detecting a threat but are ideal for assessment tasks.
