Fatum, Op. 77, is a symphonic poem by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It was written in 1868 and performed in 1869, but Tchaikovsky later destroyed the score, and it was published only three years after his passing, with a posthumous opus number.

What a power ! Tchaikovsky. The concorde of music.

Don't let the opus number fool you - this was a student work by Tchaikovsky and only awarded an opus number after his death. There is MUCH to enjoy in the writing here and, of course, Tchaikovsky's battle with fate would continue up to the last, most memorable, symphony. Thank you for sharing this rarely heard work.

This tone poem is a favorite of mine, one I go to when I just want to relax and listen to for the pleasure derived from it. The main theme is one of Tchaikovsky's longest, extending several measures over some. Beautiful, however. I love this interpretation by Maestro Kuchar, particularly because of the tempo.

I though I knew all of Tchaikovsky's orchestral works but this is new to me - thanks for the upload.

It's interesting how Tchaikovsky reworked two or three ideas from this piece in composing his overture-fantasia Romeo and Juliet.
