When I began using Houdini coming from Modo´s replicator system, the copy to points was one of those walls, mainly because of orientations and multiple meshes. Nowadays its a lot easier thanks to new and simple nodes like the "scatter and align" sop or the "attribute from pieces". But copy to points is a whole little universe in itself.

There´s a video from Rohan Dalvi called "new attribute nodes in Houdini 18.5", this might be one of many puzzle pieces for getting a replicator system in Houdini :-)

tip batch for my loved MODO community:
-randomize the 'scale' attr instead 'pscale' allows u to set 3 ranges to randomly scale each individual axis
-in 'Stamp tab' check Pack Geometry Before Copying to copy ur geo as instances
-check Transform Using Point Orientation to orient the copies matching the normals of the points
-if u write '$F' in Global Seed (in scatter params) the seed ll change every frame when u press play
-Target Points let u pass a group name or point numbers to make copies just there
-If u are copying geo into a curve better use the Copy to Curves SOP which allows much more control to orient the pieces along the curve

Wow! you are making Houdini look so easy and beautiful 😊 no point in stopping now, is there any way to push apart these scattered objects so they don't overlap?

I love these 3D models that you guys use as a standard in the videos. Is much better to see Houdini features in real world uses, like this. I would guess they were made in Modo =¶
