I am very much enjoying this series of lectures. A rock hound and collector, I live on Cape Cod on top of a pile of glacial till from 20 to15 thousand years ago topped with a thin layer of soil much younger than that. Wandering the beach I find rocks and minerals from all over northern New England and even southern Canada. We harvest garden vegetables by adding salt hay and seaweed to the sandy soil.

Soil. Who knew so much is going on in dirt? The longer I go on, the more I learn, the more I come to understand how little I know.

The Dust Bowl is an example of poor human agricultural practices leading to the soil eroding. They learned the hard way.

The idiocy of clearing rainforest for agriculture is a perfect example of how inefficient and inherently destructive capitalism is.
