I was taught to use the harmonic minor scale whenever you are in a minor key but the V chord is major. Same as what Jack says. Hotel California is an example of this.

This is an excellent lesson. You have a natural sense as a teacher. The two things that I would add are: Show, in standard notation, the notes that you're playing. And, do this example in the key of C so that you're only dealing with one accidental (a G# note), actually an A minor progression.

Jack Thank you for every little phrase and lesson you give us. I dont know if you know how much it means for people like me.

Thanks for the great lesson!! I’ve always loved the sound of harmonic minor scale, and now I have a much clearer idea how to set up chord progressions to maximize it. 🙏

Thank you for upping the audio on your voice in videos! <3 A lot of times in the past, you'd trail off in volume while speaking and it was hard to hear without turning it up. D: And then it was way loud when you play in the next scene. Love your lessons and playing!

its also useful if you consider it from the major perspective (modal mixture/borrowed chord scenario ) (Ionian #5/Major Augmented) in your example Eb. If and when you encounter a major III chord.. .... or Phrygian Dominant in a III to IV in some Spanish flavored tunes

Have been looking for something "jazzy" to play over the V7 in Thrill Is Gone and I think I just found it. How'd you know I needed this?
