The fact that you just mentioned the firebiner with the box cutter that you never going to use then proceed to receive a box and not use the firebiner but rather use a knife, great stuff 😂

Great list! Some of the gadgets I never leave without:

- Thermarest Z-seat folding pad, keep it clipped to my pack for whenever I stop, and it makes a decent pillow
- Thin goatskin leather gloves are just enough to keep hands warm, protect from scratches and thorns, and pick up hot pots off the fire without burning myself
- SeekIR USB-C thermal camera for my cell phone, for checking on things that go bump in the night, and spotting cold air traps in hilly areas where I wouldn't want to pitch my tent. If you carry a regular camera this is useful for spotting animals you'd otherwise miss.
- 8x36 Vortex monocular

Hey! Take the air pump and connect it to your antenna blower (aka pocket bellows)! Voilà!

You know what Dan, I like you, I really do, my wife on the other hand doesnt like you giving me all these incredible ideas I tell her I need! haha Appreciate the reviews/content and glad you are back!

Hey Dan, instead of using the tube to stoke your fire why not use your air mattress pump you are already taking? I use my mini pump for blowing on the fire and it works great.

You can use the pocket bellows with the flextail pump's needle attachment so you dont have to wear your lungs out and you get a way more powerful air stream. Or if you don't have the needle attachment, just wrap your hand around both to connect them and make a tight seal.

I’ve been using the pocket bellows for years - genius! Never leave home without it

What a great idea. Adding a pair of tweezers to a knife. What will they think of next? Maybe a toothpick?

gadgets sadgets. I'm not a gadget sort of guy. Everything I carry on a backpack, kayak or bike trip has to serve two or more uses. If a person carried all the possible gadgets now on the market the bottom would fall out of your pack, or the bike tires would explode under the load. I look at everything I carry as a tool and it has do two or more jobs to keep me safe, comfortable and make the journey rewarding. It also has to function in my everyday life in the city. The one tool that is always with me at home, work, church or off grid is red with a white cross, 8cm long by 6mm deep and has everything I need on anywhere any time, tweezer, toothpick, sharp 4cm blade, screw drive/file, scissor. Small but mighty.

That box cutter on your carabiner is actually a strap cutter.

cheap dollar store or amazon back scratchers make an awesome fire bellows and i use it to rake coals or move small logs around the fire, I also bent the fingers to hook pot lids and stuff

I mean I get it. I love gear too. But at what point is it all just extra plastic garbage for consuming? I always crack up at the people who go on a two or three day trip and pack like they are leaving for the lewis and clark expedition haha. Food shelter water first aid. that is really all you need.

Darwin's new pot looks and sound awesome from what you said, I love the Toaks 750ml Titanium pot, but its lid doesn't stay on, doesn't have the wood handle and doesn't have the hanging device thing... I know that I might be upgrading!

Does anyone else feel like he missed his chance by not using his carabiner with the built in box cutter.

The box cutter is for cutting cordage (paracord/bankline). Fire beiner is cool!

Hot tip - Hook the pocket bellows up to that little air pump and you have a sick bellows that will stoke that fire all night.

That’s hilarious, that pot is also exactly what I’ve been saying for a while is exactly what a small pot needs, I ended up going with the Boundless Voyage Titanium Coffee Cup 750ml and just taking out the coffee making related stuff. It’s good to know that what I thought and wanted is what an expert independently wanted as well.

The pocket bellows is my favorite piece of kit - I've give away a bunch of those to friends and family. I never hit the trail without it.

Man!!! perfect opportunity to use the firebiner carabiner to open the box from OnX Backcountry. LOL!!!! Awesome video and thanks for all that you do with getting people involved w/ the outdoors. I'm currently building my gear to set out at some point this year to hike the GA section of the AT (Amicalola Fall Approach Trail to Springer to Deep Gap, NC.) Oh, and your video where you hike Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho....my nephew works for Idaho Fish n Wildlife and worked at the Sawtooth fish hatchery. Since he's been moved to American Falls, Idaho and works w/ Trout now, if I'm correct. He has over 1200 miles on the PCT and hopes to complete it one day.
