Commas can be very confusing especially when you are required to gather some clues from the context. Remember this rule

this is quite helpful, but has a lot of exceptions. i am currently very stuck on this topic ( and very frustrated cause seems like everyone else finds it easy ). as far as i understand this approach work only for careers/occupation/roles and doesn't necessarily on titles, and in cases with more than one person. this is so confusing 😭

I thought the classifier surrounding whether you put commas around a name is whether the information given about a person is specific to that person or not. Like My best friend, Stacy, got me some ice cream. vs. My friend Stacy got me some ice cream. Since you can only have one best friend then that info is specific to Stacy, hence commas. And Vice Versa with My friend because you likely have more than one friend.
