Management doesn't like it when you show how redundant they are.

No matter how much companies try to spin it, RTO has nothing to do with productivity. It's driven by two reasons: 1) remote work demonstrates that most managers are not adding much value and don't know how to lead, 2) firms have spent billions on corporate real estate that is burning a hole in their pockets.

Managers lose that personal control a lot of them need more than they admit.

We need to talk more about how eco-friendly work from home is: so much energy gets wasted on commuting. And the more people work from home, the less traffic commuters have to deal with.

1) communication done remotely is more trackable, we don't bs gossip as often
2) we hate spending 2 hours a day in traffic to be in an uncomfortable building
3) firms are made of individual entrepreneurs. employees are selling skills just like how employers sell wholesale services. at no point in any of these transactions are we a "family"

The time I spent on small talk and having to walk around to get to places in the building I could be working or be prepare for the next big issue is worth the telework

If you think about it, if you allow completely remote work your talent pool is massive and the labor costs are lower, the cost of office space is lower, and your employees don't have to spend a giant chunk of their day getting to and from the office.

It figures that there is a disconnect between employees and managers.

I'm an electrician. Obviously my job can't be done remotely but I personally don't like being cooped up. During the pandemic driving to sites was a LOT easier and less stressful and we were much more prpductive.

We aren’t going back to those pointless offices. We’re not wasting hours of our lives sitting in traffic anymore. I’d rather live in a smaller house and have less than spend any more of my time making Corrupt rich people even richer.

Working from home actually helps me be more productive. I can get things done without distractions and staff banter.

Remote is *the* future of work. Those who fight it will lose.

When I was working in the office I was in at 7:30AM and out by 3:30PM. When working from home sometimes I work from 6:30AM-6:00PM without giving it a second thought. What a difference that urgency to beat the afternoon commute makes.

The idea of loosing personal connection is a lie Management and media keep pushing and I'm so sick of it. I know plenty of people whose personal connection with other employees grew during the pandemic, you don't have to be face to face to work well together. In many instances distractions actually hinder that more than anything.

The environmental benefits alone, from having fewer people commuting, make WFH worthwhile

Connection with colleagues!? Yes…the small talk will justify my 3h commute.

Pay. Them. More. If you want people to return to work in an office, you better offer some incentives. I’ve priced it out on my end - the money I save on my commute, car payment (we went to a single vehicle over the pandemic), and lunch as well as more time for leisure, healthy dinners, etc - they would have to pay me an extra $30k a year to get me to come back into the office. Not willing to? I’m happy to find work elsewhere or let me stay home.

They just want their commercial real estate to retain its value. It’s not our job to do that

I love the fact that the woman she's interviewing is working from home.

Companies paying for unused office space and the ability to micro manage is more the reason for requiring return to office than "collaboration" or productivity.
