‘Sopranos’ creator David Chase finally reveals death scene for Tony | New York Post

Once again, David Chase has given his audience everything and nothing at the same time.

“The Sopranos” and “Many Saints of Newark” creator revealed a cryptic tidbit that gives the show’s blackout ending and fate of James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano in 2007 a bit more context — but you’ll still have to draw your own conclusions.

Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, Chase confirmed that the show’s iconic Holsten’s last supper was separate from a plan he originally envisioned for the boss’ demise.

“Because the [death] scene I had in my mind was not that scene. Nor did I think of cutting to black,” Chase said.

“I had a scene in which Tony comes back from a meeting in New York in his car. At the beginning of every show, he came from New York into New Jersey, and the last scene could be him coming from New Jersey back into New York for a meeting at which he was going to be killed.”

What a lot of us have already known. Cut to black for was foreshadowed with the conversation with him and Bobby. The members only jacket guy was also foreshadowed. Also a mafia fact that a lot of people don't know is that guys aren't supposed to be hit in front of family, however Walden messed up when he hit Phil in front of his grandkids and wife. They should have waited for Phil's wife and the grandkids to drive off before they hit him, which is why Tony was hit in front of his family.

When his nephew woke up from his coma, he told tony 3 oclock. The shooter came from the bathroom at 3 oclock

So it’s confirmed Tony was whacked🙄🤷🏼🙄👎🏽

That would've been awesome if he made the opening theme for every episode into the scene leading to his death at the end. We would've had no clue we were watching tony in the moments leading up to his demise all 6 seasons. It would've made for an intriguing ending for sure.

I liked the ending they went with tho. If anyone was a fan they knew what happened from the conversation of what happens when you get whacked that Bobby and Tony had on the lake.

How does this confirm his death?? I saw the ending more as the viewers seeing into Tony’s mind how everyone is a potential threat so what could be a normal family meal could also be an attempt at his life and the point of it cutting to black is that we don’t know what could happen, just like Tony

Bobby said when it ends for you it fades to black. He says that in the Boat at the cottage.

So now brings the question, who killed Tony?

Leave it to NYPost to bungle the ending like the Phil Leotardo - DBL UKE hit.

No disrespect to the great David Chase, but no matter what he says, Sopranos fans will always have their own theories as to what happens to Tony in the end.
P.S. I've believed Tony dies in the end.

Well, although the first viewing was a shock(in my case because I didn't even know it was the last episode), it really is all there, no need for explaining

Well what does that mean is Tony Soprano dead or alive

BS. I remember him saying he had in mind "Tony reeking leaves" final scene. Just an attempt to jump the shark after Many Saints of Newark failed

Not that this plays in the the open-ended nonsense I just watched I wonder why more people don't speculate on the man in the jacket somehow foreshadowing more what happens to AJ then what happens to Tony him and AJ are dressed in the exact same jacket and their appearance and placement on camera are almost mirror images of each other movements

The last I saw of Tony Soprano he was alive and well, enjoying the finest onion rings in the great state of New Jersey. If Chase wanted the series to end with Tonys death then he should have delivered better then a black screen. To say all these years later "oh yea he died", means little to me regarding Tonys fate. I'll continue to assume Carlo flipped to save his son, and Tony is living out his days confined to a cell in some Supermax prison. Chase blew the ending, spare us the BS...

Why doesn't he explain why the Many Saints of New York was a total disaster?

This was just about as anticlimactic as Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone's vault. I want my click back
