As someone who grew up in the USSR from the late 60s and during the 70s and 80s, Rock was ENTIRELY about politics. Even just listening to it. Which makes my most Rock moment walking down a street in Vilnius Lithuania 1991 going to the city centre to fight street battles with the KGB troops. A young man on a balcony was playing All Along the Watchtower which seemed to fit the moment well.

Rock, Metal, Punk, have always been political. When you're young, angry and talented enough to get into music you put your frustrations into lyrics. Now that I'm older I'm still angry and love the lyrics and political messages these genres have always yelled about but I'm also jaded enough that it's less anger and more "Yup, typical"

I love the fact that people out there think that Green Day needs to get out of politics and not express their views when it comes to politics yet the entirety of the album American Idiot was all about politics and also a big middle finger to the Bush administration when the album debuted
