I still remember when "bootleg"meant sneaking a tape recorder into the concert, and, if you were lucky, having the sound guy attach it to the mixer to record the whole concert illegaly

What about Flips?
A Flip is a Bootleg, but made so that it suits another EDM genre. There's tons of Trap Flips made from popular House or Electronica tunes, for example.

And there is a flip, Rework, Remaster ...

i always think of bootleg and flip as the same thing

If you have the stems because the original label/producer has put them up for purchase, is that still a remix? Or is it still a bootleg because you haven't had official consent to publish the changed track?

First time hearing the term bootleg. Well i guess in order to learn how to remix i need to learn how to bootleg and it's currently what i'm doing

For me an edit is the same track and same genre but remade with different sounds . I remade Strings Again from Matisse Sadko but used my own signature style but both are the same genre ( progressive house )

What would it be called if the original is bounced to MIDI and someone uses that to make a “remix”? Still bootleg?

never in my life ive known what the "vip" in song names actually meant

So I'm basically remaking another persons song, but I'm not taking any sounds from it. I'm just using the main melody and general progression. It's basically the same thing, but the goal is to make it better. Would that be a VIP? All the sounds are my own.
