The Airbus A330 ran out of fuel because of a fuel leak caused by improper maintenance. Captain Robert Piché, 48, an experienced glider pilot, and First Officer Dirk DeJager, 28, glided the plane to a successful emergency landing in the Azores, saving all 306 people (293 passengers and 13 crew) on board.[1] Most of the passengers on the flight were Canadians visiting Europe or Portuguese expatriates returning to visit family in Portugal. This was also the longest passenger aircraft glide without engines, gliding for nearly 65 nautical miles (120 km; 75 mi). Following this unusual aviation accident, this aircraft was nicknamed the "Azores Glider". Great Job Captain and First Officer

To finish the story - The aircraft was safely glided approx 75 miles to The Lajes Air Base in the Azores. The only source of electric and hydraulic power was the RAT ( RAM AIR TURBINE ) A windmill that deploys to generate electricity when the generators fail.

If you tube does not stop this crap of cutting off the video, people will stop coming here and watching these.

It's important to note, that the pilot during his formative years, flew with gliders extensively, which IMO helped him in this emergency.

Excuse me, what we have here, is another YouTube video, that cuts off before the rest of the video is shown. Why bother showing an incomplete video, in the first place?

Yeah saw the full video of the story. A passenger even commented of the pilot after the ordeal, "I don't think he's a hero. But I think he's a hell of a pilot."

Fabulous. Love the glide factor. No more falling like a rock from the skies.

What happens when you run out of time with your video presentation. Well this happens to this one unlucky video.

Well, if a plane is IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN it doesn't matter if it has fuel or not!

The French Captain of this flight stated it was a faulty fuel gauge and then did not investigate his theory. Full recount of the story on YT.

If you google/YouTube Air Transat flight 236 you get the whole story but everybody is complaining that the background music drowns out the commentary. So if you assume that they all landed safely, and drink a 'stiff' whisky you will not be disappointed.

Hopefully it did not crash. Hopefully. The pilot's are excellent at their job.
