Tomato Beef Stew | Chinese Recipe

This is a Chinese style tomato beef stew recipe. What makes this more Chinese than Western is the combination of ginger, garlic and spring onions and the use of meat spices like cinnamon, cloves and star anise.

500g beef (chuck, shank, round or any other parts for stewing)
1 tomato, large
4-5 slices ginger
4-5 cloves garlic
1 Tbsp tomato paste
1 bay leaves
1 cinnamon sticks
1 star anise
2 cloves
2 stalks spring onions
Water
2 Tbsp soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
