I think it's most plausible that he wasn't completely devoted to the bleeding process due to his internal conflicts, so the crystal pushed back. The way his saber spat and flared was in my mind not just a reflection of his rage, but more a look at his erratic and confused mindset. He was so internally chaotic that he couldn't even focus totally on his anger and hate.

With Kylo being so conflicfed I think it cracked cuz he did honestly..he was 2 pieces, never whole or fully committed to one side

Kylo/Ben is the most beautiful and most wasted character ever written in Star Wars. It's tragic how they treated him. I wish they'd go find him in the World Between Worlds and make it right. A lot of fans would love to see that.

Kylo's crystal fractured just like the Star Wars fandom. It's like poetry.

Maybe Vader's rage was more focused, while Kylo's was more wild.

Being a fan of Legends lightsaber lore, I always wanted to believe his crystal cracked because he wasn't fully immersed in the Dark side, he was constantly fighting his good nature and it's pull to the Light side. Not all cracked crystals will emit an unstable blade.... the crossguard emitters dissipate the extra energy discharged by the crack but i think the blade instability, and stability for that matter, is reflective of the users connection to the Force. Kylo was trying to turn dark while fighting the pull to light, his internal conflict is displayed by his unstable blade. Now look, and more importantly listen, to Sidious' or Yoda's blades... Each fully immersed in their respective sides; no conflict resides in either. Their blades have a clean, pure, continuous tone and no fluctuations in color intensity (pulsing or flickering). Vader's saber blade is not as pure... there is a slight pulse in the blade intensity and a very slight change in sound that I always felt was reflective of the tiny amount of "good' that still resided in him.

Since the comics showed that it was his own lightsaber crystal that he bleed, my theory about the unstable blade is since the crystal was his own to begin with corrupting it was considered a betrayal of the crystals trust (being there somewhat sentient in there connection to the force) which is why Vader used another’s lightsaber crystal because it’s easier to pour your dark thoughts into an unfamiliar place (i.e. another persons lightsaber crystal)

I like how Theory is always so Hyped when talking about Kylo!

I';d have to imagine that Ben thought he was more committed than he actually was. Ultimately regardless of how people feel about the movies the narrative shows he was conflicted, and suffered from anger issues... or perhaps he was over compensating to prove to himself he was committed either way leading to him creating a saber as unbalanced and broken as he was.

Somehow, kylo’s saber returned.

It's just the amount of internal conflict he had in him or the fact that he tried to hard to be dark and his true self was always good

*This is my favourite possible explanation* I like to think that he was pouring his darkness into the crystal but then during the process, he felt a pull from the light side of the force that messed him up. You could think of it like putting a piping hot glass dish directly into the freezer only to have it crack in half at the temperature difference.

I always thought his crystal was broken because he was broken, being that the crystal was broken it was unstable like Kylo which led to the exhaust ports and crackling saber

I think the crystal cracking itself was due to the fact that there was so much opposition in him with a strong pull to the light. Vader had much more reason to have a cracked saber having his everything "wife" dieing and his master betraying him in his eyes and his Padawan leaving, his mother dieing. as well

I think the fact he wasn’t completely on the dark side path just yet is why. you see it in all the films a moment of him thinking if he’s doing the right thing or not

I think he was highly conflicted. I think if the light side still has a strong pull on you as you're trying to bleed your crystal, your crystal either breaks or doesn't bleed at all. I think the conflicted who are also incredibly strong in the force end up breaking their crystals. I think bleeding your crystal takes a full commitment to the dark. Vader's didn't break NOT because he wasn't as angry/rageful as Kylo, Vader's didn't break because he was exponentially more angry/rageful than Kylo. Think about what Vader had been through and done before bleeding his crystal. He had way more loss, pain, and blood on his hands. Kylo hadn't gone through nor done half the horrid things that Vader did. Vader was fully in the dark. I believe he was a sith lord by the time he bled his crystal. Kylo was merely a conflicted dark side user, but a powerful one at that.

Hey, theory. Could you do a series of videos on powerful star wars relics (from both legends and canon). This would exclude regular lightsabers and items with no special effects. For example, you could do one on lightsaber with special effects, or on holocrons of old. I'm not as familiar with all the artifacts on star wars (particularly in legends), and I think it would be nice for all of us if we learned about all that old lore.

I always personally had this headcanon that I really liked that the reason his lightsaber was like that was because he went and found the burned remains of Darth Vader (which we know he did because he had the mask and ashes) and that he also found the remains of Vader's lightsaber burned on the pyre and he found the messed up burned, broken, cracked crystal and used that which would make sense since he idolizes Darth Vader so much. Although I do think this new information is interesting too and I especially like some of the things Theory was saying in the video, like it being because he wasn't fully committed to the dark side. Also, his idea of being able to see some little blue flaring bits coming off of it for that reason would have been really cool!

Kylo’s saber is one of the few really cool things from the ST

It actually makes sense that Kylo had more rage then Vader. Vader didn’t feed on rage he would tap into his pain and sorrow. Kylo’s rage came from his fear
