NICE. Simple AND good! This reminds me of when my oldest son was cooking for his firehouse. He called and said, "Can you tell me how you make your green chile chicken? You can send it in an email if it is easier." I said, "Well, just listen to what you do.You take chicken, put it in a pot and pour a jar of Hernandez green chile over it....do you still need for me to write that down?" LOL!

Had an open 64 oz jar of sauerkraut in the fridge that probably dated back to 1999 family reunion. Vinegar is an amazing preservative!
Three years into the pandemic (March 2023 with St. Patrick's day approaching), I finally figured out that I could stew it down with canned corned beef (which had also been in my pantry pre-pandemic), "diluted" Meat flavored Hunt's pasta sauce (basically I swished some water around in the empty can to washout the leftovers after I'd poured out as much as I could for my spaghetti), and added red pepper flakes for a kick. I did it small scale on the stovetop but I would think, if one were cooking for a group, this could also be done in a couple hours in a crock pot. Forgive me if you've already demonstrated this recipe, I haven't watched all of Alaska Granny's videos yet.

I love this meal. We grew up eating the sauerkraut with just plain hotdogs. Mom and I both liked our sauerkraut cold so she would save a little back for us and heat it for everyone else.

This is my favorite meal on a bed of mashed taters. I’ve been making my own kraut too. It’s so simple and tastes way better. It’s just sea salt and shredded cabbage in a mason jar for 2 weeks. Dietz and Watson make the best brats. Reminds me of what I used to eat in Kaiserslautern Germany.

A staple in winter in Holland, sauerkraut, boiled potatoes, smoked sausage, (Gelderse Worst), fried and steamed belly pork. Delicious. Thanks AG, after watching your vid, went to make a whole meal the following day, mum loves it too. Take care.

I shared this with my husband. He loves brats and sour kraut. He said to tell you to try adding salsa to it as it is delicious. Thanks for another inspiring video.

I cook almost all of my meat in a Crock-Pot. It makes the best meat, soups and stews. I cook mine on high for 6-8 hours, though. I own 3, and sometimes have different meals in each one on Sunday morning, then I portion the meals out into freezer bags, and freeze for busy work nights. Shepherd's pie is a good all-in-one meal for freezing: 2lbs of hamburger, browned, baby carrots, frozen peas, can of tomato sauce, bay leaf, thyme parsley, chopped onion, and cook on high for 6 hours. Remove and discard the bay leaf. Make some mashed potatoes, then portion out into 1 quart freezer bags, then top it with the potatoes (add a pat of butter that will melt when re-heating to make the potatoes taste like fresh) or just freeze the filling, and cook the potatoes when using it--or, like I do, I make some of the packaged mashed potatoes from my food storage--an idea to keep in mind for emergencies, as these don't need a lot of water and heat to make.

Oh yeah, you can do a lot with sausages and kraut. My base recipe is sausages, well rinsed kraut, sliced red onion, apple and pear. Add a beer the last 45 minutes of cooking. Potatoes make a good addition. Crock pots make things easy and free up your time. Thanks for posting this.

I'm crazy about brats & sauerkraut! Part of my heritage is German, & I live in MN, where brats & sauerkraut are very commonplace. I've made this dish before, but have added chopped Fuji or Honeycrisp apples (maybe any apple would do), brown sugar, & a bit of chicken broth. SOOOO yummy. Thanks, AG, for the Crock Pot video! I use the Crock Pot for pork roast and with Rye bread or toast....Yummy! Makes great sandwiches too :)

Lol! AG, I just dug out my Crock-Pot & making vegetable soup w/left over roasted turkey and I sat down to take a break& got your notification for cooking w/a Crock-Pot! Lol! Guess what I'm making tomorrow? Sausage&kraut! Lol. Great minds think alike right? Lol.🤔🤗

Do you put the brats in frozen raw and cook on high for 2 hours? Or do you thaw and precook the brats before putting in the crock pot?sorry for the stupid question. I don’t cook much and this sounds quick and easy. And delicious!

Look at that moose shoulder deep snow. I will cook brats in crockpot in a little water, but prefer to eat refrigerated sauerkraut in stored in salt for the probiotic benefits. So I would add that as a topping instead and not cook with it. Canned sauerkraut in vinegar has no good bacteria.

Have done and you just made me add brats to my next grocery list. Looked like you also had a Martin's potato roll there as well. Some spicy brown mustard also and that just makes the whole recipe pure gourmet heaven if ask me.

AG, was that "real" (fermented) or vinegared sauerkraut?
And- a little bit of smoked bacon or sliced ​​smoked pork sausage (such as Landjäger or Mettenden; unfortunately I don't know what they're called in English) brings a hearty kick to the sauerkraut. Then don't add salt.
