I thought suctioning is no longer recommended, just wiping off secretions. And if we do do suction, considering that babies are obligate nose breathers, would you do nose first, then mouth? Thanks for your answer.

Why is a healthy baby with no complications even brought to the radiant warmer? In our hospital all babies are placed skin to skin on mother's abdomen, with delayed cord clamping, unless advanced resusitation is needed.... and even then-- in almost every case cord clamping is delayed (vaginal and c/s, preemies and full term).

"Today, we are going to assume we have a term newborn with an uncomplicated labor" as per recent NRP guidelines, the first steps you are describing could be done on the mother (to promote skin to skin and breastfeeding in the first hour) instead of under the radiant warmer. This is consistent with other best practice guidelines. Medical interventions, such as weighing the baby and the full newborn head to toe exam, can be delayed and is not necessary in the first hour of life. How are the family members "allowed" to see the baby before the mother? This is not mother-friendly or baby-friendly care. Otherwise, very complete newborn exam.

it is a shame that this video did not first cover evidence based practice for a stable newborn of immediate uninterrupted skin to skin until the first feeding or at least an hour. taking the baby to the warmer immediately and wrapping them up before family "can come over" is sad and outdated.

The prophet of Allah (God) made mandatory the practise of Taḥnīk (تَحْنِيكِ) for newborn babies, which is an Islamic ceremony of touching the lips of a newborn baby with honey, sweet juice or pressed dates. Originally the date was softened by mastication by the pious person and rubbed on the infant's palate.

The taḥnīk also *exercises the muscles of the mouth* and helps with the *circulation of blood* in the mouth - this may help the baby to be able to suck and take mother's milk. It is also credited to prevent *neonatal hypoglycemia* in newborn babies.

Now tell me. The western world has just acquired this knowledge. With all the gadgets and equipment and technology and professional knowledge, skills and team work - how did a man who neither knew how to read and write at the time of his prophethood, *know* such a thing? Among some many other miracles and prophecies of the future.
