I can understand that "bias" based on race should not be allowed, but then also make bias based on money, heritage and influence illegal

And Reagan was recorded talking to Nixon calling black people monkeys

It is abhorrent that Clarence Thomas was the 'replacement' on the SCOTUS for Thurgood Marshall.

Even if there weren't affirmative action, some people will still question whether any black colleague, student, or boss is qualified. That's just the way it is so far.

RBG was subject to gender discrimination during her time at college & when looking for a job even though she finished top of her class. Top 1% with a fellow male colleague.

Thomas has spent his entire life trying to erase his color. Never seen anyone hate their own with such passion. Bet he is in knots over the latest confirmation.

I've said it before and will keep saying it, Congress should keep the National Guard close at hand for the '24 Election. The GOP will not take being voted out lying down.

Thomas and Roberts, two of the most corrupt people on the SCOTUS.

Uh was it fair to give all the jobs to one group and none of the jobs to the others? People complaining about the least qualified person shouldn't even know that person was less qualified. Who said that other person was less qualified? Maybe they were more qualified?

Where does the Supreme Court get off telling a private college or university what criteria to use in granting admission? The individual school should determine those factors.

Reagan had come to power largely by using higher education as a foil. “This is after the campus protests in the ‘60s where (Reagan) really took the protesters to task as 'filthy speech advocates' — which is Reagan’s term. So, he was used to casting higher education as something of an opponent

There are so many aspects of this that are coming together, it's difficult to really peel apart the onion. Besides the deep problem of endemic racism in the USA (and in western thought as well, since you can find the "white superiority" poison in many countries, a concept that goes back to the 19C at least, there is the very US-specific problem of always wanting to glorify the country and its manifest destiny. Americans are so sanguine they are constantly "moving on." You can see this in recent issues such as the Vietnam War: There was no real soul-searching about the disaster of this war, we built a monument for the 58k+ soldiers who died, without ever considering the horrors we visited in the name of anti-Communism on millions of Vietnamese in the name of anti-Communism. Reagan was elected in 1980 promising to forget all that, including the Watergate Affair, which had actually exposed Nixon as a crook and a danger to democracy and the moral rot in the GOP. In the same way, we refuse categorically to look at the violence of our "free market" during the 19C, which accepted slavery and ultra-cheap labor. When slavery was finally abolished by means of a bloody civil war, we went on to accept the cheap labor and poverty of Black Americans, all the while massacring the Natives, all in the name of land and of course moneymoneymoney. This greed and thirst for power, fueled by some Puritan hallucinations is now exploding the one thing we should have really cultivated: democracy, inclusiveness, etc... Maybe the good side of this decision is that it will show the true face of this "idea" that is trying to be a nation.

I have to point out the ridiculousness of the term "reverse racism". Racism is racism. The ironic implication of "reverse" is that the affected group-in this case Whites-are positioned as being the original racists.

There are other contributing factors that need to be addressed:

1. A for profit educational system is inherently biased.

2. The way Black people are perceived as "other than" doesn't help. "African Americans" is a nonsensical and, IMO, insulting term.

3. Giving Black people a month.

4. "The first Black woman/man" to achieve something.

These are some examples of how the "other than" perception is reinforced.
