Karna's Death in Mahabharata

Karna, also known as Vasusena, Anga-raja, and Radheya, is one of the main protagonists of the Hindu epic Mahābhārata. He is the son of the sun god Surya and princess Kunti, and thus a demigod of royal birth. He born with an armor know as Karachi and earrings known as Kundal that protected him from all forms of terrors.

To know about the death of Karna, it his important to know the two curses that influenced his death. These two curses were given to him by his Guru Parashuram and the second by a Brahmana.

While Parashurama is sleeping, a terrible worm penetrated his thigh with his teeth. Even after terrible pain, Karna did not move as he does not want to disturb his guru. His thigh was pierced, and eventually, blood starts coming out of his thighs.
When Parashurama wake up, he saw the blood coming out from Karna’s wound (घाव).
He immediately figures out that Karna is not a Brahmana. He knows that a Brahmana is not able to bear the pain for so long.
Parashurama becomes angry as Karna lied to him about being a brahmana in the greed for weapons.

The second curse of the Karna was also during his time in Parashuram’s hermitage. Once he was roaming around alone on the shores of the ocean along with a sword and a bow. He started practicing his archery (तीरंदाजी) skills with his bow and arrow. But accidentally, he kills the cow of a Brahmana.
The Brahmana gets angry. He curses him to be killed by his enemy when his attention is diverted in the middle of combat.

So when Indra approaches him as a Brahmin, he already knew that it was Devraj Indra. Still, he gave his Kavach and Kundal to Indra.
Indra after seeing this feel embarrassed and asked him to accept a gift in return. Karna initially refused the offer saying he did not give charity expecting anything in return.
But after the request of all Gods, sages, and celestial beings, he asked for Vasavi Shakti (Indra Shakti). Indra granted the boon with a condition that Karna could use this weapon only once.

I read it somewhere that even after giving up his kundal and kavach, Karna was still protected by Yamraj's invisible aura because of the many good deeds he had done throughout his life and was like immortal. To counter this, Krishna asked karna to donate the results of his good deeds so that the protection given by Yamraj could be nullified. Karna being the greatest daanveer donated those without hesitation and by doing so he was granted moksha

Of all the characters in mahabharata, I liked Karna the most. Ever since I watched an old telugu movie as a kid (Daana Veera shura karna)

You made a mistake at 2:09. You said Arjun instead of Karna.
Not just the brahmastra. He was cursed to forget all the knowledge he received from Bhagwan Parshuram.
Not if someone equal to him in strength. It was when he needed it the most.
Way too many things are wrong in this video.

I find something else to learn.. that even the strongest warrior has friends that have the power to bring them down..

And they say Karna was a bad guy. There was never a hero greater than him in Mahabharata.

When Krishna was asked about Karna’s strength and weakness by Yudhishthira, Krishna mentions forgetfulness ( due perhaps to to the curse) and compassion as his weakness.

Kunti never loved Karna. Thats why she selfishly asked Karna not to kill her children. Kunti was seriously flawed.

It should not be forgotten that it was Karna, who instigated Duryodhan to disrobe Draupadi publicly in the royal court. He also kills Abhimanyu in violation of rules of engagement in war. Krishna very clearly informs Karna why he deserves to die the way he actually met his end.

Thanks to all the new age TV serials who show Karn’s heroic side, I see many Karn fans and some even debate that he was better than Arjun. This is factually wrong because in original Mahabharata (Ved Vyas version) Karn’s life is written in great detail.

He was perfect nemesis of Arjun otherwise it would have been one sided affair.

He was daanveer no doubt about that. He is rightfully praised about that and given his due credit

Fact not shown in serials: Karn was a warmonger. In chapter “Shanti Parva” where Krishna bhagwaan offers truce in exchange of 5 villages, Karn encourages Duryodhan to disagree and instead opt for war.

He was always bitter towards Arjun due to jealousy and competition whereas Arjun after learning that he was his brother chose to teach Vrishasena the knowledge of celestial weapons. Krishna bhagwaan then asks Vrishasena to promise and not share that knowledge any further as it will be hazardous in kaliyug.

Karn was defeated multiple times -

1. By Chitrasen Gandharva (Arjun was sent to free Karn and Duryodhan by defeating Chitrasen later)

2. By Bhim before Rajasuya yagya. This is how the Kingdom of Angadesh agreed to devote their allegiance to Yudhishthira.

3. By Arjun in chapter “Virata Parva” where Karna clearly lost and had to retreat from battlefield

4. By Arjuna again in Mahabharata war and was killed

Karan’s life was tragic no doubt about it but Krishna bhagwaan himself tried to convince him to choose the path of dharma. Big life lesson for everyone that God is watching us and wants us to do right. He will show us the right path and guide us but the decision always remains ours and we will have to face consequences of wrong decisions and deeds like Suryaputra himself

Hmm wish you would fix the typos. Also I think its rather important to stress why it was still not Adharma even though it was against the rules of war...
