Have you ever added too much or too little flour to your recipes? How disappointing was it?

Hey! As I began dabbling into the world of breads I started measuring by weights. Same as you I was intimidated, but it’s super easy peasy! (-:
Thanks for sharing

I can not tell you how much I appreciate this valuable video for any one that is interested in baking!  You rushed and apologized when this is one of your best video's ever...You know Trisha Yearwood was using her lemon/limes squeezer putting them in with the cut half side up until a fan wrote in and told her that she would get more juice if she turned it the bottom side up....she appreciated that info passed it on during one of her shows and I was doing the same thing! In fact I wondered why everyone was using that darn thing when I was not getting so much of the juice...thanks so much ....maybe a demo on how you measure things with that measuring thing you showed....I have one but how to use it is another thing....

Thank you! It would be nice to see how you measure with the scale

Went grams and will never go back. Used to run an e-commerce business and had a pretty nice shipping scale that was no longer being used. Now putting it to great use in the kitchen! The only issue I had with weight was there is not a consensus on what a cup of flour (or other ingredients) weigh on the internet. I checked a handful of reputable sites and got a handful of answers. :/ A little frustrating at first, so I aerated, spooned, leveled, and weighed my preferred brand of flour and documented that (along with other ingredients).

I have often made things using the wrong method for FLOUR... things turn out dry...great info and so appreciated....I think the baking shows do a disservice to those of us who want to learn...they often measure things so shoddy and that's just not how it is when BAKING.

This is an anecdote. Old cookbooks used to say "Sift, then measure X amount" of flour.

It would be helpful if the two ways of measuring flour were weighed on the scale to see the difference it actually makes in the weight.

Hi Sam! Im not sure you’ll see this comment so anyone who does, that can help if appreciate it a lot!

My question about using scales is this: portable scales like the one you use can get un-calibrated…how do you know if the scales need to be recalibrated/how to recalibrate the scales?

I have a kitchen scale that I’ve been using to weight out my hair products for when I bleach/color my roots. I will not use it in the kitchen and I have already followed your aff link.

I’m asking bcuz I think my non-kitchen scale is off. I know that a 2 oz bottle of hair color will also weigh 2 grams (this might be a product thing but I digress) but the last time I tried using it and I had already measured the colors, and tared it out, then the scale started reading different numbers and the. Back to 0 as I was getting the developer ready to weigh.

The item didn’t come with instructions and I can’t find the company on Amazon anymore?! And everything I’ve seen online, seems to cost like $40-$60 for the “weight calibration” piece.

Again, I’m just wanting to know if you have ever had a calibration problem/issue and if so, are there tell tale signs to look for? Thanks in advance to any help or advice!

So how would you measure things on that little machine....demo?  You know  often on baking programs they do just dip into a bin and often don't even level it ...how about when measuring a teaspoon ect. sometimes it's just heaping and maybe they do know so well that it's ok for them but really baking isn't that way....

How much is does a cup weigh? There are so many recipes out there that tell you 1 cup instead of a weight.

My latest addiction is in trying to make an almond flavored cherry on top cookie...why can't I get a rich almond flavor in my batter?  I have used pure almond extract twice the amount called for...the recipe is one my sister gave me...
