I agree with the "Contained traveler" theory and that the ghosts have been disabled, but not dead. Then our first missions will be to find a new source of "light" and to remove the cabal containment barrier, allowing the ghosts to be reactivated.

My theory on the start of the game is that the traveler is blocked from giving us light so we have to channel light through other means. I think there will be some story that the guardians can channel light from the sun, this comes from the leaks awhile back where there was a titan wielding a fire shield, a warlock with wings and a sword made from fire and the hunter with a spear made of fire. And the other subclasses will either be unlocked by saving the traveler or finding ways to use void and arc energy.

what if when you delete your transfered characters from destiny 1. There is a cutscene that shows your character dieing Noble 6 style fighting to their last breath protecting their dieing ghost. That would be so sad and epic.

The traveler is not dead, it is contained if a field by the cabal, that means we cannot use our original sub classes ( we can still use hammers, storm and tether because they do not come from the travelers light ) So most likely in Destiny 2 we'll get more sub classes that don't revolve around the Traveler's light

When you watch the trailer, the Traveller clearly has some kind of shield going on. I think the ghosts will either all fly back to it or will all be deactivated so the Traveller can protect itself. I also think we will find a way the access the light directly (like Oryx accessed darkness via worms first and then directly later).

It's also already been said that Destiny 2 would be very different and mechanics would not be the same.

As far as lore goes I don't think iron lords had ghost which means they revived without ghost so maybe they are eliminating the ghost and replace it with our own character voice maybe just a thought

LoL, you guys are giving Bungie far to much credit. D2 will be exactly like D1. Yes, with a few small changes but NOTHING that would scare casual gamers or fans of the original away. Why? People LOVE what they know. And you nerds talking about your collections proves how conservative you are. Collecting virtual stuff is a waste of time, You should crave the experience and not the loot.
