1. A week before, avoid toxic foods, decrease caffeine, increase good oils
2. 3 days before - up minerals and increase fasting length by a few hours to help adjustment
3. 2 days before - avoid refined carbs and sugar to stabilise blood sugar, up protein (meat and veggies)
4. 1 day before - understand why you're fasting to feel convicted, set an intention and manifest, gather fasting knowledge so you stay passionate, prepare a coping strategy when you struggle to keep going, know your boundaries for breaking a fast (e.g. poor blood sugar or fatigue and dizziness), surround yourself with community

On the last point. What I've done is setting up a nice tray with flowers on the kitchen counter with the mineral powder, greeb tea pot, a little container with salt and a jar with purified water. I also added a note with a list of things to do such as: shower, walk, etc. So every time I walked into the kitchen during. My 5day fast I wouldn't be so disappointed because there was actually something there for me ready to take in and it looked appealing and comforting. Hope it helps someone!

Idea for next book: Fasting for Geezers!
Us 'older' folk have many different concerns than most younger folk - we may be on meds of some sort, we don't have the same recovery times, we don't metabolize food & vitamins the same, we may have mobility issues or chronic pain, we often have chronic insomnia, and our hormone profiles are quite different. What do you think?

First 3-day water fast was after the first strain of Covid. I had no idea what I was doing, just believed it was something I needed to do. All of the lingering symptoms of fatigue, sinus drainage, GI upset, and inflammation completely disappeared somewhere between the 24 and 72 hour mark. I could hardly believe it! Now, it all makes sense. Also why the 2nd time I tried to do a 3-day water fast I had much more difficulty and had much less beneficial results when I jumped into it without any preparation whatsoever.

Grateful for this channel. Fasting needs some homework for it to go smoothly. After my period every month, I do 36-48 hour fast. I'm currently fasting (at 27+ hours). The physiological practical aspects are critical, but mindset is also a huge puzzle piece. It's so much easier when I keep reminding myself WHY. Like a lot of things in life: the why matters more than the what.

Dr Boz gave a tip to first make sure you're in ketosis before starting a fast. So I started doing sardines "fasts" a day before my water fasts. Works great, no muscle loss.

Just wanted to say that i was 215 before getting your book “Fast Like a Girl”. I purchased it August 26th on Amazon, read it in 2 days. I now weigh 196.2 now. I HAVEN’T EVEN BEEN WORKING OUT REALLY, just sometimes I walk on the stairclimber and sweating in IR sauna. And following the fast schedule during my cycle and doing the 36 hr. fast every now and then! I put ACV in my water too. And I still eat the hell outta sweet potatoes during hormone feasting stage!😂😂😂
Thank you so much! Trying to lose 15 more lbs. Going to try 3 day water fast next.

Great collection of advice. My experience on my first 3 day water fast was a little more empirical. It just happened last weekend. It started with me being a little unhappy with picking up the habit of starting my 1st meal quite late in the afternoon (4, 5 pm); thus ending up having the other meal too late (9pm ish). So, i decided on a 36 h which i can do with my eyes closed. But, next day, feeling excellent and full of energy i decided to go for the 3 days one. Monday started ok, and by 2 pm i decided to take full advantage of a beautiful day here in NYC, so i went out for a HIT session (i play tennis against a wall pacing my rallies accordingly to raise my heart rate). Surprise was that after very short rallies my heart was racing unexpectedly fast, sometimes even getting lightheaded. I decided to break my fast right away. I was at my 68th hour when it happened. Not too shabby. So i was happy with it. As it happened the very next day i had a dr appointment for a regular follow-up (i'm a 2-year cancer survivor - if i can say that). My vitals were incredible. I haven't had blood pressure so good in decades ( usually it was around 130/80) ... it was 117/79. A couple hours later, without eating i went for my regular HIT (as described above) and despite my best efforts, i barely could raise my heart rate. So, the conclusion, despite eating pretty clean for a long time now, my preparation for this fast was null, probably even less than that, but i managed to ride it almost to the end, ; so, as a conclusion, I would say that mindset might be more important than chemistry, not to discredit, off course the science of chemistry. Thank you dr. Mindy, your advice guided me here and helped me find my sweet spot as i am continuing my journey towards autophagy.

Mind set is key! I learned to acknowledge that impulse to want to eat as instead, my body telling me that positive things were happening. I love fasting. It has changed my life. I will add, I've always been an athlete, and sweat more than most. I thought I had been supplementing properly, but recently added minerals and that was a game-changer. Also decreased my coffee, though I have replaced my second coffee with cocoa, so I know there is still caffeine. I do find sometimes that I have to make myself eat so I have good fuel for my workouts. I'm 60, so past menopause. Trying to convince my two boys to try this! Grateful!

I am working my way up to 3 days... I did 36 h in my last power phase. The next will be 48 h and before the holiday I am going to tackle 72 h. I am excited and a little nervous. 24 h is non problem for me. So I throw them in whenever I can. I eat completely clean for over 2 months now so I already feel well prepared. But I will consider these recommendatiins from the video for sure. ❤

Today I start week 7 of an 8 week 72 hr Water Only fasting cycle

Now finally after week 6 I am beginning to see my morning (non fasting days) fasting BS numbers be in the 75 to 85 range. Indicates to me that I am pretty insulin resistant but am improving!

(I have been intermittent fasting 16:8, then 18:6, then 20:4, then 23:1 OMAD over about 10 months and lost 45lbs - now currently IMF 16:8 normal days for maintenance.)

After all this is the goal. It can be pretty frustrating to learn that others had a much different (easier) outcome and Your journey is not met with similar results as quickly. Don’t give up! Push on to the goal! Others are doing it! You can too!

I do a three day fast 3-4 times a year,
Daily 10am-6pm window eating what I want with healthy carbs and zero added sugars.
Daily minimum two miles a day and weight training/stretches every morning.

I just had a supercharged three day fast a week ago starting with prep before colonoscopy exam.
Doctor said all good.👍

Hi Dr Mindy could you make a video outlining what foods we can eat after breaking a 3 day water fast. Ive already broken the fast with bone broth and then half an avocado but i often dont know the guidelines to eat after that and on what day we can incorporate carbs back into the diet. Thank you heaps!!

Too late! I had a major IBS flare-up so I started water fasting 2 days ago. It is now the evening of the 2nd day. No coffee. Feeling great. Tomorrow is the 3rd day.
