I read 'The Power of Now' and 'The Flowering of Human Consciousness' in rehab, and listened to a lot of Kendrick Lamar while getting my life together, it was really cool to see the crossover between the two.

I've been off of heroin and alcohol since August 26th of 2019. I'm still slowly rebuilding my life, it does get easier though.

In my own journey of understanding the relationship between myself and the world, I always find it very riveting to be apart of Sis’s community. It seems that we show up to these videos not only to further our own understanding, but also to witness Sis as he navigates his own. It’s like catching up with an old buddy; except this buddy has a set of keys to doors you didn’t quite know existed, doors that are even within your own home. Thank you for nourishing my interest in understanding.

I remember at 13 I understood what he was saying. And I really experienced what he was talking about. Now I'm 20 and it seems like I "forgot" what it was. I need to reread his book..

The Power of Now is my favorite book and I always find it crazy that it gets lumped in with the “self-help” category. Loved the video!

That quote at the end is a pretty strong one. "...You think you can't get there from who you are at this moment because you are not yet complete or good enough, but the truth is that Here and Now is the only point from where you can get there".
Also reminds me of the Good Will Hunting quote that Robin Williams gives Matt Damon, when he says, he doesn't want to spoil a beautiful thing in the girl he was seeing. "That's real smart chief...that way you can go through your entire life, without meeting anyone". And later in the movie he gets him back with the same dialogue. What a beautiful movie <3

The Power of Now changed my life. So did Alan Watts, Stoicism, and Buddhism.

Hey Sisyphus55, just want to say thank you for being such a great source of inspiration for all these years. It’s always so refreshing to see your insightful exploration of a topic which is enough to understand, but always leaves me wanting to research it more on my own.

Started out in philosophy from Tolle around 11 years back, moved on and learned about a lot more, subscribed to a channel named Sisyphus 55 on YouTube. Saw this video pop up today and realized I've come full circle. Here I am now, like always.

Read the Power of Now in the last few months. Must say its changed my life hugely for the better. Im able to focus on the present and have been able to implement a regular routine of meditation and exercise. Being able to feel your sense of being present watching your emotions/thoughts/feelings is a great help and allows one to remain calm and accept situations for what they are

I grew up on Buddhism but didn’t quite comprehend the concepts fully until I read the basicness of “The Power of Now.”

I think having a western mind interpret eastern values does help. Since then, I find peace and learning from Alan Watts.

I think I got quite into Eckhart Tolle (mostly his lectures on YT) about 9 years ago. I had been struggling immensely with depression and especially anxiety and I think the concept of mindfulness might've been one of the things that ultimately helped to reduce those issues over time. And while I no longer practice deliberate mindfulness nearly as much, I still remind myself of it now and then and just generally try to live a conscious and mindful life. I'm not always very successful at it though, in fact I think most of the time I'm not. In any case, it's nice to get a reminder like this and I might look into the topic more, by for example looking at those sources in the description.

I don't think there are necessarily any right answers when it comes to philosophy or self-help, but rather there are many different views and ideas that we can use as tools to come closer to some kind of understanding or view that we feel comfortable with and/or that can help us live a life that we are content or okay with. Philosophies of people like Allan Watts and Eckhart Tolle I think can be very helpful or comforting for many people, even if they might be a bit esoteric and not always grounded in "scientific truth" necessarily. I came across Allan Watts later in life and maybe resonated with him even moreso than Eckhart, but again both are just 2 perspectives out of an infinite amount of perspectives. The more different perspectives you get, the easier it might become to form your own opinions and frameworks.

I can definitely appreciate that aspect of your videos too. While there might be some of your own views or biases here and there, which is impossible to avoid completely, for the most part you're just informing people and letting them use whatever they want and form their own opinions.

So yeah thanks for another nice video and have a nice day :)

@4:26 one of the few things I've always felt and understood to be true. this man's work is like answers to everything you have always wondered if you're halfway conscious. being able to relate for the first time makes it that more relevant

Theses concepts saved me and I wish I found them earlier. Not realising that you don't have to react to every thought can make for a lot of suffering. It really should be in schools.

awesome video. I read this book while being 14 years old. Back then I had some sort of social anxiety plus low self-esteem. I tried to escape my never-ending thought spiral. I somehow discovered that book on the internet and after reading I began to take all his "teachings" way too seriously and literally tried to stop having any kind of thoughts. I was in a rly weird state of mind. I felt dull after some time and even began to feel depressed because I didn't allow myself to have thoughts lol.

Now at 20, I realised that I'd rather have worked on my self-confidence. Eckhart Tolle may help some people but teenagers shouldn't read it when they don't fully understand what Tolle means.

You always post when I'm about to give up. like after a existential panic or a total shut down. But you always remind me, it can be better. Other people know how and I can learn, so it will get better. Knowledge seems to be the source of my struggle and peace.

I'm going to read this book again. While reading it and doing the recommended practices, not once in my life had I experienced that deep of a level of peace and mental clarity
