FUKUOKA, JAPAN - Welcome to Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu, in southern Japan, and this is one of the capitals of Japanese street food in the country. They have done an amazing job to preserve the culture of “yatai” or portable street food stalls that set up in the evening across the city. Tonight we’re going on an ultimate Japanese street food tour in Fukuoka, going to 5 different place for 5 Japanese dishes and I can’t wait to share all the food with you now.

#1 Yaki Ramen
Price - 2,650 JPY for everything

#2 Gyoza
Price - 8,450 JPY for 5 people (we ordered a lot and lots of drinks)

#3 Tempura - Next, I’m not totally sure of the name of this place, but they are known for their tempura, battered and deep fried seafood and vegetables. It was a little oily, but still quite tasty.
Price - 1,100 JPY

#4 Hakata Ramen
Price - 650 JPY per bowl

#5 Yakitori
Total price - 4,400 JPY for everything with drinks

The yatai street food culture in Fukuoka is one of the great Japanese food scenes in Japan. Let’s hope generations continue to take pride in their food stalls and preserve the yatai culture.

Can't say why others love his videos but for me it is his vibe and decency. He not only tastes every food with love but also with much interest and respect. He is such a genuine person that I can never get tired of his videos or the way he is so on point giving every little detail of food.

I love when you come to Japan ! The way they prepare food, in such a delicate way. They use little seasoning to make perfection. The presentation of there food, they seem to put so much time and effort into the food Japanese chef’s bring customers into experience their culture, an understanding Japanese food.

I've always been fascinated by the lesser known cuisines of countries mostly known for one thing. Mark always does his travel destinations justice by showing how diverse and abundant the food there is.

What really makes yatai so special is the niche it fills in Japanese food culture. That of street food, cooked fresh, on the sidewalk...as its done, say, in Saigon or Bangkok. You could probably get the same food or things similar to it at actual brick and mortar restaurants in Fukuoka; but, there is something so charming about getting them at one of the sidewalk stalls. And, those vendors work so hard. The entire structure, the cooking apparatus...everything has to be erected before service begins. Then, the owner/chef buzzes around merrily to serve his or her eager customers once they flood in. Japan needs to preserve this culture.

Mark this is the first time I’ve decided to post after watching your food tours for years now. Thank you for continuing to do these tours. Each time I start having an anxiety attack I put your videos on and honestly it helps calms my anxiety to the point the anxiety goes away. Have a great day on purpose, Nina from Chicago.

My city!! So glad you visited the best city in Japan!! Tokyo certainly can give you all sort of amazing food, but Fukuoka can offer real authentic Japanese soul food with real fresh ingredients. Fish are fresh off the boat. Produce are picked right out side of the city. We just eating everything whenever we go home from US. I wish could show you around you and your family!!!

I love Mark Wiens videos. He is such a powerful positive vibe person. No wonder his wife and son - his son is so good. I simply enjoy Marks video and also try to cook some of the dishes from the show - but of course don't add so much chilly as Mark is used to. I wish him the best of the best and also his family. Mark is very down to earth. I would love to meet him. I live in Nairobi , Kenya .
