So what would be the better approach? If the task is not done and you need it now it will be either you don’t have to show anything to the customer or you do it yourself and at least can save the task. Truly interested in what people would do instead

Oh yes this can happen easily to women when they are brought up in families where females were predominantly self sacrificing caretakers. I used to be guilty of it until I realised there was really nothing wrong with asking for what I needed and most often people were more than happy to give it. The book Codependent No More by Melody Beattie has some good knowledge in it. And the book Women Who Love Too Much.

That is not the only problem. I am retired now, but years ago I was the acting lab manager. Then you find you can ask certain people to do something and they do it. No problem. When you ask someone else to do something, it just never gets done or it is not done properly. Due to time you have to take over.

I had a woman work for me who tried this excuse a lot! All the guy's complained about her not communicating effectively then playing the victim card all the time and they started recording her in secret when she was asking them to do things. Turns out they werent disobeying her because she was a woman they were doing exactly what she asked which was not procedure....not efficient and just plain dumb! Then when in inevitably failed she would blame the men and say they werent doing what they were told because she was woman!

Exactly! Assertiveness is crutial for a management position. If you're too soft and a push-over you'd be stepped on, every step of the way. Its not about your sex, its about dominance.

In any singular instance, you never know if it’s because you’re a women, because you have no alternate reality to compare. You will never truly know. Plus, you can’t change the fact. But there are so many other possible reasons that you indeed can do something about. So it’s not about denying the existence of gender bias in general. It’s about gaining agency. This is a very practical advice.
