There is a rare chance to see a total solar eclipse in parts of Canada and the U.S. on April 8, which happens when the moon passes between the earth and the sun while completely blocking the sun.

It will be viewable in parts of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Heidi Petracek looks at how one retired New Brunswick scientist wants to make sure everyone gets a clear view of the rare event, even if uncooperative weather interferes.

Where I live, it will be visible for only about 30 seconds. Better than nothing, of course, but i'm thinking of maybe going somewhere a bit south to see it longer.
