Fix Remote Control Buttons Not Working - Clean the contacts inside

If your remote control buttons aren't working as well as they used to, maybe they just need a good cleaning inside.

I had a receiver remote where the volume buttons stopped responding so I took it apart, cleaned the button contact points with alcohol and got it working normal again.

Since the daughter has grown up now I don't have to clean the orange juice out of the remote anymore, but was fun cleaning the jam on toast out of the VCR once.

After cleaning like this, I use a glass brush and massage the rubber pads to roughen them up. They tend to get none contact due to compression (flat and blank = no contact) and age,

I tried this, and it now only works when I hold the circuit board in place against the keys. Is there any fix for this?

My put the remote down for about a year and came back only 1 button works

For the rubber parts, I put dish soap in my hands and lather it up then grab the rubber part and rub it around. The dish soap helps to remove all the oils from your fingers that gets down in the nooks and crannies. Then just rinse it off with hot water and pat it dry.

This does work although I'm sorry to say I doubt it'll work for long. Old silicone degrades, and when it does it secretes an oil, that's the 'residue' you discovered on the board. I don't know how long Silicone can do this for, I assume though that it would have to stop at some point. I've been cleaning a TV remote like this for at least 18 months and still have to do so regularly.

I used your video to clean my Samsung TV remote but after this cleaning the remote still did not work.

I went back to internet and found a post that said take your batteries out of your TV remote and then press the channel key for 10 seconds to reset everything. Put the batteries back and my remote began working great again.

You need to mention this type of resetting for TV control.
