Old House Renovation 3 - Subfloors - fix dip in floor and replace rotted wood
Показать описание
In our old house renovation project, we show how we have tackled a variety of floor and subfloor issues. Because of the the age and deterioration of the old house in places, renovation efforts had to be concentrated on making sure we could start with floors as level as possible.
We dealt with a number of issues - rotten wood, unlevel floors, use floor leveler, adding 3/4 inch subfloor, using shims to level a floor, water damage to wood, sistering joists, all of which are connected in one way or another to fixing flooring issues or flooring problems.
We supported the unlevel floor joists in the basement with new beams and screw jacks to make sure all was solid. Then we went on to get the main floors level with a combination of a new subfloor with floor leveler in one small area.
The second floor over the kitchen area had new floor joists sistered into place from underneath because weakness caused by notching and water damage.
In the bedrooms on the second flood, we decided that floor leveling with shims and new subfloor was the best route to take in order to keep additional weight on the old joists to a minimum.
What remains is to rebuild a sunken addition and add new joists and walls to a badly weakened structure.
Only when the floors are in good shape can we progress too the next steps of renovation of our 120 year old house.
Thanks for watching!
