I love how Tarzan thinking "gorilla" means "scribble" isn't just that he's mistaken what Clayton's drawing is meant to represent, it's that Clayton's drawing is so terrible Tarzan doesn't realise it's even meant to represent anything at all!

His reaction to the pictures on the slide projector shows that he's completely capable of immediately grasping the concept of pictures, as long as the image is a decent one.
