Why the Baritone is Actually THE BEST UKULELE!

(You can fight me in the comments lol)

Hello, ukulele lovers and musicians! I love all the ukulele sizes, but this one is my FAVORITE ukulele. You may be familiar with the tenor, soprano, or concert ukulele size, but have your tried the baritone uke yet?

Tuned similarly to a guitar, the baritone has a warm, rich sound. It's great to sing along with, to write songs with, and to add to an arrangement. If you're a beginning ukulele player, or maybe even a guitar player, I highly recommend trying the baritone ukulele.

I've toured an an indie artist and singer/songwriter all over the world with my Kala baritone ukulele! It's easy to play, sounds amazing plugged in, and is perfectly travel size.

I write all my songs on a baritone. I basically use it as travel guitar.

I was a classical guitar player. I now have arthritis, and find that the lower tension and fewer strings are much easier to play than guitar for casual 'just for fun' times. I also have taught elementary school, and the Bari uke is perfect to use with my kindergarten and first grade students. It fills TWO niches in my musical life!

I have the same Kala Baritone Uke (Yes - it's a great Uke). What many don't realize is that a Baritone is a "2-in-1" Uke: if you capo at the 5th fret, you turn your Baritone into a Tenor (and play tenor chord fingerings). I perform with both a Tenor and a Baritone, but if space is limited or portability is key I will bring only the Baritone because it can serve both needs.

I love the deep rich sound of the baritone too. I agree it is comforting.

i started with a baritone because it is tuned similar to a guitar. found it to be too big, bought a tenor, and tune it as a baritone. in business.

Awesome video!!! Hi, I am a first timer to your channel, a new subscriber, and I got super excited seeing the title of this video. I am retired and in my late 50's and this past spring I decided to learn the guitar. After 6 weeks I gave up. On YouTube, I saw that there were lots of talented Uke players out there playing all the guitar songs I wanted to learn to play and they sounded just as good. I wasn't exactly a fan of the Uke sound, but I bought a tenor and started there. It was ok, but it lacked the deep tones of a guitar and even though it was easier to play I wanted more of a guitar sound. I then noticed that some of the online Uke teachers had videos teaching the baritone uke and the sound was just what I was looking for. A nylon guitar sound in an easy to play four string uke! I bought a Kala baritone, KA-SCAC-B and fell in love with it. After a few months of practice, I made enough progress with it to boost my confidence back up to try the guitar again. So I now practice both the baritone uke and my GS Mini everyday for over an hour with each. Thank you for making this wonderful video, we need more exposure and attention brought to the baritone uke as it deserves more love and recognition in the uke community and in all musical circles.

I do remember playing the baritone by accident at a festival. I was surprised by the warm rich sound. Particularly because you could hear all these high ukuleles and the baritone stood out.

I like that I can concentrate on getting the melodic part of a song memorized with only 4 strings, then go to guitar and add in the thumb picking for bass. It's a good way to isolate a specific part of the song to work on.

I re-string mine low G, C, E, A. Love it.

Enjoying your enthusiasm. I love all ukuleles particularly the soprano. I have a fairly low voice so I've purchased a baritone. I'm really glad I did as I'm enjoying its mellow tones. Best wishes.

Love this video and your passion for your ukulele! I play mostly on a 8 string Tenor, but you helped convince me to take the plunge and finally get a baritone!

I like the baritone uke because its so easy to handle, a bit easier to handle 4 strings than 5. Just love to pick it up, it seems to form fit the body much better than my guitar. Im in my seventies, never learned guitar properly. Its a great hobby. Im learning chords now.

I started with a Tenor and eventually bought a Baritone. I had a hard time stretching to the larger fret spacing, but in a few weeks got my hands working. I just liked the size of a tenor, and so found the Bari-Tenor strings from Fremont. the high d gives you a ukulele reentrant sound. I have found that the tenor detuned with Tenor D'Addarrio carbons ( EJ99;s) tuned DGBE gives me a softer string feel and seem to work just fine. Some may not like the rubbery feel, but it doesn't require the hand strength, if you are an older player like me.

Ukes are so underrated! And baritone even more underrated! So true about baritone being a gateway uke. It's so comfortable to play. I also came from guitar, and the baritone absolutely re-ignited my passion for music
