How to determine the direction of friction acting on a sphere, disk, cylinder or ring kept on a rough surface when a force is applied on the body? This video explains it with examples. If you want us to discuss some concepts, post it in comments below.

The popular text book answer that friction is INDEPENDENT TO THE AREA OF CONTACT is actually not practically true. Friction, in fact, is very much dependent on the roughness of the surface, and the net aggregate roughness of surface proportionately increases with the increase in total area. This is practically true. But, this truth has no implication in physics, as this phenomena is subject specific (i.e. dependent to the given surface condition only) and thus has no universal interpretative implication - that means there cannot be a universal equation to measure this condition. Therefore, this has no relevance or utility in general theoretical or arithmetic understandings of friction in physics/engineering. The coefficient of friction is measured under the standard conditions of surface and other parameters which has general and practical relevance in arithmetic interpretations of the phenomenon.

If @R<a then the how the block moves in the backward dirn???
Here a acts in forward dirn and if a is greater then it should move in forward dirn.

HCV --> Rotational motion -> Question for short answer -->A ordinary physical balance is given.when there is no weight on pan, the system remais stationary BUT when we put load on either pen it rotates.why? Please reply as soon as possible with detailed & better explanation.Thankx

Sir, in example -1 you did not find moment of inertia about the rolling point, instead you choose the I about centre of mass. Plzz explain this Sir.
Thank you 😇

If the surface is frictionless, then why are we talking about direction of friction?

in uniform pure rolling the relative velocity at the bottommost point that is in contact with ground surface is zero .then how that point move at the top of rolling body after some time?
plz explain

sir, in pure rolling if we use 1st method than there should be no friction in any case. since in pure rolling ( alpha=a/r ) and a is translation acceleration. sir, please reply to solve my query. because it is too important for me to clear this doubt.

sir in pure rolling how the point of contact act as an instantaneous axis of rotation ??
you also applied this in chp 10 q 60 ...that too i was not able to understand
please help me out ....

Hi sir,

angular acceration of body ( from method 1, example 1) is different from( method 2, example 1 ) from same set of values, how it is possible ???

sir in iit 2oo2 there was a ques tion shown in figure inwhich there are 2 capacitors having a switch in between them initialy opened and one capacitorsr has charge q and anothere capacitor uncharged now the key is closed q\Q was what is the charge pesent in the uncharged cpacitor after a long timme the answer is oo
DO UI THINK ITS CORRECT I THINK THE CHARGE WIL BE SHARED BUT ANSWER IS O
