we were visiting my brother in Russia and my husband had a bad asthma attack. We had to call ambulance. I was really scared how much it could cost for a canadian. My husband spent a night in hospital, had his attack taken care of, prescribed medication and ... we did not pay a dime for anything. Emergency medical service in Russia is free.

In Russia, pregnant women register at the district women's consultation, periodically undergo examinations, tests and doctor's consultations, 10-20 visits per pregnancy. Therefore, they come to the maternity hospital fully examined with all medical documents. If you have not been observed at the women's consultation and have not done any examinations, you are placed in the observation department of the maternity hospital. Perhaps this is why three foreigners ended up in one ward.

I hope that Russia will always have good quality free medicine, because medical care is everyone's right, not a privilege. It is also the state's care for its people, because what is free for patients is always paid for by the state

Baked apples are included in the diet of moms in maternity hospitals to improve digestion and saturate the body with vitamins (e.g. iron, which is good for the blood of mom and baby, as well as vitamin C, potassium, copper) in the first days after the birth of the baby. Baked apples are easier to digest than fresh apples. Fresh apples can cause abdominal bloating

I'm Russian. I don't have any kids, so I've never been in such situation from the parent's side, but our doctors literally saved my life back when I was born. I suffered perinatal stroke at birth - by all means, I should have been paralyzed for the entirety of my life, but they diagnosed it in under a few hours and did all they could. For 3 years I got nootropics and hospital treatment, all for free. And that was back in the late 90s, in a very problematic period for the country.
People may say a lot of sh*t about our healthcare, but you got to appreciate it when that's the only reason why you're a walking, talking, almost fully healthy person instead of a paralyzed body hooked up to the life support until the end of times. Congrats on your family growing, and thanks again to our doctors.

On one of my late mothers adventures she was inRussia and the hotel receptionist note her bad eyesight. She asked if my mother would like to see an optometrist. Two days later a taxi arrived to take her to an appointment, well, mum took up the offer of LASER surgery, ( this was in the mid 1990s), very cheap and changed her life.
Mum is not from Yankland, or Europe, but had a deep love of Russia after her visits.
A friend who broke his leg in a motorcycle misadventure in Siberia has similar tale of great care.

Milk products are not necessarily for milk production. At least not for that purpose alone. They also help replenish calcium. Women tend to lose a lot of it during pregnancy. Water and apples (lots of iron) help to replenish the blood lost. Apples are baked to make them easily digestible and avert any stomach problems.
Those plastic bags are designed to be as clean and safe as possible. Any contaminant would be visible on them immediately. Medics in Russia are big on those sanitary standards, as you might have noticed.
Oh, and congratulations.

As I understood it, the birth took place in a regular free hospital. I should say that in Russia there are also paid maternity hospitals with individual rooms of high comfort. Good health to mom and baby!

Thank you very much! You are a very beautiful and happy mom! Congratulations ! And yes, discharge from the roddom is always a very big thing in Russia. A father brings usually 2 bunches of flowers on that day : one goes to the nurse who is carrying the baby and solemnly passes her to the happy father, and the second bunch goes to the beautiful mom of course. The whole family usually comes to greet the mom and the new baby and congratulate the happy parents . Friends would come also. It's like a wedding. Well, as important as wedding I'd say. All the very best to

One thing that impresses me on this channel. Americans have very specific accent when they try to speak russian but you pronounce russian words almost clearly.

Well as for suitcases, as you probably already know well, in Russia even at home we never walk around our house in street shoes and always take them off as soon as we come home then wash our hands right away and change to home clothing too. It is wild to us seeing western movies how people get on their couches with their shoes on and put suitcases on their beds to unpack them.
And of course it is even more important in hospitals with sterile areas. In clinics you also put on бахилы (kind of like little plastic bag-like covers over your shoes) or wear slippers in the hospitals. You can't roll in a suitcase in there that was rolling wheels on the street

The discharge is a big event usually, it's a ritual, you're right. People come to meet the new baby, they give flowers and presents and escort the mother and the vaby home where the whole family celebrates the birth :) People usually have specific outfits chosen for this event as well. It can be a pretty envelope looking blanket that will never be used after 😂
