Here are the TOP 3 COMMON MISTAKES on the VIOLIN ARM
(1) Wrist
• the wrist is to be kept continuous with the bow arm for most of the time
• while it is meant to be flexible, there needs to be a level of stability & not to floppy to perform more things such as shifting to eg the V position where the hand frame has to be changed
• setting a wrist with a correct position is important especially for the III position that is normally taught after the I position has been secured
(2) The Violin Arm
• check out our “superman” violin hold method for more!
• the violin arm has to be under the violin, not too twisted or flung out of the body
(3) Fingers
• use your fingertips to press on the strings at all times and ensure that only the side of the index finger (and thumb) is in contact with the violin
• do not use the flat fingerbed to press, as this will also affect the vibrato (fingers) in future
^ all of the above are the most common mistakes that our beginner students make! Of course there are more to list, but these are just some to note 😄 do note that how it APPEARS may vary from individual to individual! Hence, the general shape should be corrected by your teacher.
