Great tips. I think learning about money management is so important. I love the idea of assigning every dollar you earn to a category.

I run my zero-based budget in a different format. Each expenditure category gets a column, like "Food", "Gasoline", "Streaming", etc in row 1. I also have columns to allocate money for quarterly and yearly expenses, like "Insurance" and "Property Tax". A set amount of money for each category is defined in row 2. Expenditures are listed row by row, under the proper columns. The expenses are summed and subtracted from the set amount in each column and the result should not be negative at the end of a cycle. Adding all the amounts in row gives me my monthly salary. I try to have $80 - $100 left over to give me some wiggle room in case something comes up, as I don't have a column for "Oh, s**t!". For example, I have a "Home Maintenance" column but sometimes that column needs a little help.

Not knowing what this kind of budget is called or that it even existed resulted in me taking a long time to develop it. The exercise was worth it as I ended up with a template that tracks every penny, just like yours.

I have columns set aside for "Investing" and "Saving". These are just set-and-forget numbers and placeholders. Saving and investing are active tasks that require my engagement. I like to think of my money as my employee and I am a merciless manager. Why? I worked hard for my money and now I demand that my money work even harder for me. No excuses, no complaining, and no whining. Money makes money.

Thanks for keeping this video in your archive! It's good stuff! You've been posting a lot of videos about investing. Have you considered revisiting some of your past topics? Maybe you have a new perspective on them. I mean, 1 + 1 equaled 2 back then as it would now ... but maybe back then you would print 2 and now you would write it in calligraphy? :)
