It really is a lot of work but you do learn a lot. Knowing is most the battle with gardening.

I heard from somewhere that the pheromones Japanese Beetles excrete when they eat or something...(I'm not exactly sure) attracts more japanese beetles. Whenever I find them, I just pick them off and throw them in some soapy water in a bucket and shortly after they don't come around again. Last year I found them on a vine growing next to my garden that they were just DEVOURING...so getting rid of that particular vine and throwing about 50 in a bucket did the trick and i didnt see many afterward

That would make sense. They swarm to areas. Washing them down would be a good tactic.

Is that what they are. Good thing I shoot first and ask questions later! I've been seeing those, rather cool looking beetles around lately, alive then dead. The war continues. Who would have guessed gardening touched on nearly a dozen classes of science. I love this. I'm in heaven. I have to go back and do some garden guardin'. Squirrels live in the trees in the park behind my yard. And some nut head, yards over feeds them peanuts. Thanks for the knowledge, Gary.

Ive seen those beetles near my fig tree. Never knew what they were.

Yeah, they love to eat figs, especially very ripe, fermenting figs which makes them punch-drunk. You'll also see them rambling through your compost pile because thats where they lay there eggs and go through their worm stage.

Handling them is not so fun though, haha.

Yuck! I dislike beetles. I usually get them visiting my fig tree each year. They are green fig beetles and they have a pretty rapacious appetite for figs.
