Former police officer charged with DUI in deadly North Kingstown crash

A suspected drunk driver who police say hit and killed a tricycle rider in North Kingstown faced a judge on Friday. According to North Kingstown police, Daniel Famiglietti was arrested following the crash Thursday evening on Boston Neck Road.

I worked with a guy at the airport in Vegas, Nv & he racked up 7, yes 7 DUI's and never let that stop him and was never to my knowledge stopped from further driving.

I dated Daniel many years ago he was my first love ! After he became a Police Officer he changed drinking parting with the guys needless to say we went our separate ways! I had seen him through the years I knew I could not fix him then and I would never be able too! It is sad I knew this day would come but thought he would kill himself! I feel so bad for the poor woman who was killed it truly breaks my heart! I pray he is locked up for taking her life and loss all he has! She was given a death sentence bye him may he pay for what he has done! A cop in prison is not a good thing! I am sad that he could not get rid of his demons but he had no right to take another's life he should have gotten help years ago!

I would say that most police and firefighters are not drunks, but they certainly attract more than their fair share of them. Our heroes and our political leaders are drunks and have a fantastic record for beating drunk driving charges. I wonder how many professional courtesies he received before killing this person. The ex-speaker of the house is the current go-to for elite drunks.
Drunk driving in Rhode Island is only bad if you are caught, charged, tried, and convicted. That is the message we get.
Not much will change for the offender; once the buzz dies down, he still has a pension for life. On the other hand, the whole family and community of the victim have been irreparably devastated. Based on her health and character, I assume it was extensive.
The 4th of July is coming up, and we will have cops, firefighters, politicians, and local newscasters telling us how dangerous it would be for one of us to do what they do, and nothing will change.
