Philadelphia prosecutors say newly released police bodycam videos show the fatal encounter between Officer Mark Dial and Eddie Irizarry on August 14. Dial was suspended from the police department and is now charged with murder. His attorney says the facts will show Dial was “legally justified.” NBC News’ Ron Allen reports.

The officers who signed off on the false report need to be charged as well. They clearly tried to cover it up and did no internal investigation.

You can’t fear for your life with some guy holding a pocket knife inside a car with the window rolled up.

"Police later changed the details of that account."

That's a curiously benign way to describe conspiracy to conceal murder.

Every Officer involved that saw the video or was on scene and kept the statement that he jumped out of the car to cover the officer should be charged with accessory to murder. Any civilian in the same situation would've been charged why not them??

If they lied about the details then this is murder.

they first said the man LUNGED at the officer, then after we saw him being shot behind a closed window, they changed their story, the whole department needs to go.

I like how being a cop for 5 years makes you a "veteran".

Amazing that the footage wasn’t “corrupted” or “lost”.

He literally hopped out and executed that man.

They lied to cover it up. Then the video comes out, they completely changed their story. It’s almost like cops like this forget they have a whole camera strapped to their chests. Just imagine the kinds of atrocities they were lying about & getting away with before bodycams.

You're "in fear of your life, " so you rush to the window. Being "in fear" is the go-to excuse for injuring or killing people, along with "stop resisting!"

This right here is why so many people hate cops

If that officer didnt have a uniform on, you would think this was a professional hit. In 2023 its mind-boggling that police still do stuff like this

They first lied about what happened and tried to cover it up until the victim’s family got a hold of that camera footage in the neighborhood. This is why I have trust issues when it comes to cops and their reports. They will protect each other at all cost

Giving a false account in this case is akin to being an accomplice to murder.

This is why the Law Enforcement profession fought so hard to not wear bodycams.
Were it not for the recording, the Thin-Blue-Line would have covered this up as it has done (and continues to do) for generations.

The balls on this cop to lie this blatantly over something so heinous is shocking. This was an execution, not self defense

You already got caught lying, what can your lawyer possibly say that will exonerate you? It will be just more lies. What next? "I thought I saw a gun in his hands, even though I lied about saying he got out the car and lunged at me".

Cops sure are milking this "I feared for my life" thing for all it's worth.
