David Daley believes democracy in the United States is under threat. In his new book "Antidemocratic," Daley suggests that far-right actors -- including those within the Supreme Court -- are controlling American elections. He describes a 50-year plot to undermine voting rights by attacking key legislation designed to protect these rights. The author joins the show to discuss the implications of all this as Americans prepare to head to the polls in November.

When I heard Ronald Reagan say in his 1981 Inaugural Address that our government isn't the solution to America's problems, it WAS the problem, I worried we would end up with a Supreme Court hostile to Democracy and the Common Good. I've been watching this zig-zag downward for 43 years, and it's no where near done yet. 🇺🇲🥺

All Americans should hold John Roberts accountable for his actions against them and their right to vote. What is being said here is unethical acts by a Supreme Court Justice John Roberts.

Three of the justices were put on the court by a president who didn't win the popular vote and received only 26% of votes of those eligible to vote.

Until we establish uniform federal standards for how states conduct elections that elect leaders to represent them in federal offices, we will continue to see these state dirty tricks to disenfranchise segments of the electorate. You want to send representatives to D.C. to represent your state at the federal level, you must play by federal rules to elect them. This is not unreasonable because this affects ALL of us no matter what state you live in.

Yes they have and will continue. We need to change the rules of the SCOTUS.

I know little about Justice or Politics but this is too much too obvious and should be dealt with fast.

That interview was scary. I hope that the makeup of this SCOTUS can be reversed

Back in '94 I was a newly married, stay at home, first time mom, when a friend asked me if I would like to work from home with her for a powerful GOP congressman.

I was a practicing Catholic who had decided to be a Republican because I wanted to "protect marriage" and wanted a GOP congress so interest rates would go down.
That was my whole, laughable, philosophy.
I worked for that congressman for 4 or so years, and by the time I was done I was scared to death of the evangelicals and a "liberal".

He is not wrong
Glad I stumbled over this because I'm pretty sure I got swept up into this stuff, briefly and feel fortunate that I exited the pipeline before it turned me into a Trump supporter.

The white men on the Court preside over 8 of the 13 U.S. circuits/districts: Roberts currently personally presides over 3, Kavanaugh over 2, Alito over 2, and Gorsuch over one. The African American man and the 4 women preside over 1 circuit each. It is high time the next Democratic president and Congress expand the Court to 13 so each Justice presides over 1 district, just like when the Court was expanded to 9 Justices once we had 9 districts.
