Always speak the truth. And you do. 😊 This way the company knows, and can make changes to the product. Now, I would like some of the meat you cooked. Amazing

Yeah, you pretty much NEED to use another device as a bridge with the MEATER if your using a cooker with the lid closed. The lid acts like a Faraday Cage and unlike other devises the transmitter is inside of the cooker. With the bridge the range is amazing, plus this thermometer can be used with a rotisserie. They're working on a base unit that acts as a bridge, so that should solve the problems and eliminate the need for using another device. Wish the bridge would have at least been demonstrated in this video.

Nice review pointing out the flaws with the Meater. There is a new version however which I believe fixed the issue. The charging dock which holds the meter acts as a wireless relay. Instead of the probe connecting to your phone it instead connects to the repeater and your phone to the repeater for extended range and reliability.

you put the smoke tube on the wrong side. the smoke is going straight up the smoke stack. if you put it on the other side the smoke is pulled over the meat

I think you mean it has two thermometers, not thermostats?

The company has updated the product, now known as Meater+, that has a bluetooth repeater built into the charging block. I costs a bit more than the original, but hopefully goes a long way to alleviating the range issues.

No where in the video did I see the meater box by the grill. This is either an outdated review or you just don't understand how to use the Meater. It is awesome! Especially on a rotisserie where wired probes just don't work. It is the actual box that receives the signal from the probe. Set the box close to your grill. The box then sends your phone, where ever you are. The Meater Plus is good for over 150 feet. The Meater Block is good from here to the International Space Station by WiFi. Seriously. I hope you will consider taking this down as it's misleading on a great temp probe which can up everyone's game. It did mine.

It seems not many people know how Bluetooth works. The spec has a 3 meter range. Any device you buy that uses Bluetooth will have more/less the same range. If you use another device that allows you to connect from tens of feet with walls on between it is not connecting through Bluetooth.

Hey Jack, can you try the Meater on meat cooked in an oven in your home and see if it still fails to connect to you while you walk around the house? Maybe it's geared more for that purpose and I'd be curious to see if it works under that situation.

The problem is the grill and cover is steel and it attenuates the signal to point that it becomes a very short range device and then you go inside your house which would provide even more attenuation.

However as a oven thermometer it should work fine. Inside your kitchen I would suspect that the convenience alone would provide adequate value even when the signal loss is so high.

Where does the power come from? Does it generate power by the temperature difference between the meat and the head exposed in the oven or grill? That is not a lot of power.

Jack, I love your measuring technique!!

I dont understand why your target temp is 195.... I smoke meat at work all day and we run it at 180 degrees until the internal temp is 165. Cooking it until 195 would dry the hell out of it. Unless you have a damper feature on your smoker.

It works great. I recommend having a tablet or another old phone in range then use your regular phone on the cloud. I can be out getting more beer watching it just fine.

I don't know meat temperatures, but why did it say 165 for well done, yet you set it to 195?

Yes I get that 100% I had the same issue. I thought I'd have to have another device connected to it where it stands. The ink bird is a treat of a thermometer. Love it the 4 probe . No issues, wireless I'm still working through it. Nice honest video man

Thank you for the review. I really was hoping it was going to work flawlessly-I have heard that it needs to have a primary device to send via cloud and wasn’t sold on that idea either.

It also connects to WiFi extending the signal

It's running off the WiFi in your house, not Bluetooth. If your WiFi is strong enough to pair with it, that is a great thermometer.

They released the meter+ which goes over a hundred feet, and there's also a functionality where you can connect it to your wifi and keep a connection through multiple devices. sure you figured this out now, but just in case you didn't.
