Just like Mike Tyson, Chiyonofuji dominated opponents much larger than himself except in a sport where weight limits DO NOT EXIST. Sumo is an incredible sport that deserves more attention which is why I made this highlight video and tribute to one of the greatest Sumo Wrestlers of all time, Chiyonofuji Mitsugu.

He's lifting and throwing 160+KG behemoths like it was nothing and won 32 world championships while being severely underweight. THAT is power

grew up in hawaii and watched sumo just for Konishki. While watching Konishki, i learned of Chiyonofuji. Became a bigger fan of "the wolf" then i was of our own homegrown. lol. But Konishki was always second :)

In a sport where weight is often regarded as vital, Chiyonofuji was quite light at around 120 kg (260 lb). He relied on superior technique and muscle to defeat opponents. His sharp eyes and muscular body earned him the nickname, "The Wolf". He also studied his opponent's strengths, weaknesses and strategies very closely on film and during live events.

He was Tyson AND Ali all in one. The total package. RIP.

I was lucky to be posted in Japan during Chiyonofuji's years. He was to me to sumo what John Wayne is to movies: the best!

One of the few to actually successfully prove a point, that sumo is not about being very heavy and big.

I remember watching him as a kid on channel 4. Guy was an absolute beast

His explosion, technique, grit, and athletic size would had made him an exceptional Center in American Football. Absolutely love it!

As a black man in London I remember being 9 years old and being fascinated by his fights on tv. A true master!

I had watched this a while back and I remember getting into a fight at school and I grabbed the person's belt and I flipped him over and I walked off trying to look cool 🤣

I would have loved to see him fight Asashoryu and Hakuho. His style would match up great against Hakuho I believe.

I am a training rikishi, amateur but beneath a former top division wrestler, and I have visited several basho and even had the honour of meeting three yokozuna (Musashimaru, Hakuho and Kakryu). Chiyonofuji is to me one of the greatest rikishi to have ever lived, standing beside other greats like Taiho, Hakuho and maybe even Akashi Shiganosuke himself.

His unprecedented power and ability was not due to weight or size alone but sheer capability and training compounded into a near undefeatable status in his time, only really outshone before his retirement by Takanahanada (to become Takanohana) and Konoshiki.... Because Konoshiki was a 200kg man who could snap you in half with a single harite.

Chiyonofuji with yokozuna rope is a perfection, its like yokozuna rope was designed exclusively just for him

Chiyonofuji, The Legendary Wolf, is an absolute ICON of sumo. Ferocious, strong, indomitable - and hungry for glory! He could throw around the likes of Konishiki like he was as light as a sack of potatoes! This sumo legend fought through so many hardships, check out NHK's recent Grand Sumo Legends special on him!!
