Good tips. I particularly liked the back button focus one. I could never figure out why everyone thought it was so great. I always found it a slow and unwieldy way of focusing.

Tip #4. Have your lenses caliber. Seriously, I had a lense that was so off I could not get a sharp image until it got caliber.

Linked to this from Shutter. Big booty out and the player....hilarious! On a more serious note I have noticed I've gotten sloppy with technique lately. Going to try to get back to that better stance when photographing. Also will check out moving away from back button focus. I realize these new cameras are so capable that i have been slowly modifying the way i set up my camera. Thanks for the reminders.

Ok now you're pissing me off Sal! (but I can't say you are wrong). You just turned my world UP SIDE DOWN bro! Back button focus - check. Focus / recompose - check. Now I gotta start over on this stuff. You're killing me :)

Excellent. Thanks for the tips. I've been using BB focus, but going to change things up. Thanks for the tips.

Great tips thank you, but, not matter what position I'm in I get camera shake due to nerve damage in my left arm & I'm left-handed and legs aren't so good either (long story let's not go there), so now I always use a tripod. For me Tip one is still relevant with the tripod as it would reduce any momentary shake. Thanks again.

Stance— my biggest issue, thanks for the reminder.😊

In a fast paced situation like weddings, how easy or hard is it to move around your focus point so you can shoot rule of thirds when you have moving subjects? I have an older 5d mk2 so back button focus is still my go to.

Great video I just have a question on the back button focus. Its seems the sharpness would be better if you used back button focus with ai servo. That way it keeps focus on them if they sway or move. Am I wrong with the thought process? Now I always use the focus points i never focus and then move. Thanks in advance.

Sal, what if I'm on a tripod.... I don't move the camera up and down like that when using back button.... I just press back button to lock... then when I'm ready I hit shutter.... I shoot family portraits and always on tripod.

Good tips that I used for years, but you are right if you watch the average photographer, they don't get it.

Better yet, get yourself a Canon R5. The auto eye af will lock on to the eye no matter HOW you shoot or hold the camera lol

ummm snipers DO have two separate actions, they focus, then fire. the trigger is not linked to the scope

There are actually lots of similarity to firing a gun/rifle and shooting properly with your camera. It's funny to hear people who swear by back button focus.
