It's crazy how the TV angle can make serves look so slow but in reality from this angle, it's incredible that players can even return them!

Every club level player, myself included, probably has a memory of their first match against someone who was truly out of their league. I drew the captain of the first team in my first ever club tournament and it was like getting punched in the gut; there was NOTHING I could do against the spin, power and angle he could get off of the most casual ball. And then of course this is another 10 levels up altogether. It's insane how good you have to be to be truly good at this sport

My first live match that close was in Buenos Aires around 2005. Saw an exo between Del Potro, Calleri, Cañas and Acasuso. All massive hitters. The ball moved like a cannonball. Forehands sounded like thunder. TV makes no justice to the speed and power top players achieve. It's mindblowing

I used to be a warm up hitter when I was trying to get onto the tour in Aus and it was terrifying the pace the top 100 use compared to <500

I was fortunate enough to be a ballkid in a match between Federer and Djokovic. The balls are frighteningly fast.

watching tennis on TV and watching it live is completely different. The atmosphere and intensity of the game is amazing, and the experience of watching someone like Federer so close is just wow!!

Saw several matches at the US Open once. In person is so much faster and more intense than TV. Three other sports I've witnessed up close, MLB, NHL and Olympic sprinters. MLB: the throwing speed and bat off the ball power is almost incomprehensible, it's stunning, scary actually if you sit very close to the field. I played baseball when young, but it's as if these players literally have super powers. NHL: sat rink side and the speed of the skating, the flying puck, and their reaction times are actually dizzying. Like just a blur of flying, crisscrossing motion. 10x what it looks like on TV. Olympic sprinters: sat on the grass next to the track at an Olympic qualifying event. The intense power and speed again was like witnessing a species beyond human. If you ever have the chance don't miss it. Unforgettable.

I was lucky enough to watch federer djokovic, directly behind about 8 rows up. Incredible.. Tv coverage should spend a lot more time in that position.

Those topspin forehands look crazy because they don’t move that quick but you can tell how heavy they are. There’s court level footage of Rafa training with De Minaur and rafas forehands look insane in that way.

Tennis at the speed of table tennis, insane. It's so beguiling the power and speed these guys have from the top angle of TV coverage, that it makes you think you're hitting close to what they are. On the level camera angles are great this way, really shows you just how good these guys have to be to stay at the top 100, more so the top 10.

The standard overhead view of tennis that we see on tv is specifically set on an angle that slows down the ball. It’s an optical trick that happens when you take something that’s happening in 3D and compress it to 2D - your flat tv screen. It’s slowed down on purpose so viewers can easily watch the ball instead of seeing a yellow blur.

That guy in blue, he looks good... a promising chap. Bet he'll do well on tour, take some victories and inspire a few people to start playing tennis.

As with most sports watching it live in the stadium gives a completely different impression to watching on tv. I saw the Ivanisevic Wimbledon final win. Mind-blowing serving. Probably one of the best finals ever played there.

I had a very modest tennis career when I was a kid. I still remember how hard it was to play, say, a rally of 7/8 shots at moderate speed. When I watch professional tennis today I can't believe my eyes.

Probably the best match in Laver Cup History❤

Eurosport has recently changed how they show downhill skiing - lots of drone footage right behind the skier. It's SCARY. At last. Just awesome. It used to look ridiculously simple because cameras couldn't capture the steepness or the speed. Hopefully tennis will catch up.
