True, with those particular 16 inch hubcaps you can just use the second groove… But what if you buy aftermarket hubcaps that don’t have that feature? If you just wrap tape around the ring where it contacts the clips and you put it back on it should be a lot tighter .

Not all aftermarket hubcaps are designed that way and as easy to adjust. Mine move slightly after driving, but not enough to really worry. As long as they don't pop off and get lost, I'm fine with it.

Mine would still fall off no matter which ring I used. I gave up on those pop-on hub caps.

You could have explained the valve stem needs inserted between the hub cap and the metal ring. I installed it wrong the first time and I mashed the valve stem down by the metal ring.
