ZV-E10 still kills it. The iPhones are always so oversharpened, but they have improved, especially in background blur!

I love the clear side by sides in this. All the filmmaker comparisons I've seen so far do quick cuts and grades which mask the difference rather than show it.

As a mirrorless cam user, I could say the iPhone's camera quality is fantastic especially with its smaller sensor. I can only imagine the camera tech advancements that camera phones will have in the future that might probably close the gap between camera phones and actual cameras.

I have to say this is one of the best comparisons between a camera and a phone.
And the styles that you do your videos are top notch... such a pleasure to watch.

Tony Northrup tested this, resolution wise, the 15 Pro resolves around the same detail as an 8-10 megapixel camera (i.e. less then the 12 megapixel A7S III once you remove the artificial sharpening). As for the lenses, you are getting 13mm f/10, 24mm f/6.3 and 77mm f/24 (120mm f/21 on the Max) fixed aperture equivalents to full frame.

This is somewhat academic but I found it quite fascinating. Despite the sensors and technologies seeming like they couldn't be more different on paper, in practice, you can apply the same crop factor calculations. You get an image uncannily similar to taking an image on an A7RV at 35mm F/21 and then cropping 70% of the image out to match what the iPhone's 15 Pro Max tele lens does. 70% because the crop factor here is roughly 3.54x.

Similarly if you take an image on the wide lens on the iPhone at iso450, it should equal 24mm f/6.4 at ISO3200 on FF - ISO formula is ISO*(CropFactor*2) - and wow, it does! - same exposure, same field of view, same depth of field, similar detail (if you resize the FF image down to around 8 megapixels and upsample to match the same image size), though iPhone has more aggressive noise reduction out of the box.

So there's no inherit advantage in DOF, or resolution or low light performance or anything else. But knowing this, if I do want a lot of DOF I set my 24mm on the ZV-E1 to around f/6 (or f/4 on E10) and 12 megapixels still resolves more detail than 48 on the iPhone :)

Interesting, I suspect some will prefer the extra-sharp iPhone footage, but for me the ZV-E10 footage is the way I want my videos to look.

Fantastic comparison! With all the iPhone 15 hype I'm surprised (and as a ZVE10 owner, honestly relieved 😅) how much better the Sony looks. I'm also really enjoying learning/using a "real" camera in having more control over the image. Looks like I certainly need to upgrade from the kit lens though!

I'm so proud of the ZV-E10. I bought it a few months ago, and this channel convinced me to do so. Thank you very much!

I still absolutely love my zv-e10. I have the FX30 and A7iv but find myself grabbing the zv-e10 for quick shooting. I think for the money the zv-e10 is the best bang for your buck. I recommend it all the time.

I use my Nikon Z30 as a studio camera, iPhone for quick video footage, and GoPro for longer video footage. Oh, the Z30 is a great little camera for still photography.

Great video! I'd say the iPhone definitely looks great especially with the color graded pro res log shots. I'd definitely rather the zv e10 overall for content though. Not only does the overall shot look more natural but I definitely wouldn't be looking forward to uploading, editing and exporting an average 30 min long 250 gb file for YouTube

I love this comparison.

Honestly, the iPhone is still within the "good enough" range for shooting as a B cam. Granted, it's truly all about the camera you have on your person, which is usually your phone.

That said, if I had to choose, I'd still shoot with a crop sensor over my iPhone.

Great comparison. As someone with a ZV-e10 and about to buy the new it would be great to hear how you combine footage from both in a project (e.g. what settings on each to make it easier to match)
