You don’t only have to be skilled, but you have to have pride in your work and need to always strive to be better. Talk to the NDE guys to understand why your weld may have failed a volumetric exam so you can modify your technique, make sure your equipment is clean and you have a clean ground, grind your starts and stops, degrease and get any oxides or other debris out of your joint before welding, take care of your electrodes, and never weld over anything that looks suspect. Grind it to a 3:1 taper before resuming welding. Welding is an art, and being anal is rewarded by success.

I love pipe welding but nobody talks about the kiss asses and there is so much money involved that people will constantly throw you under the buss we need to teach these young ones how welders take care of eachother not how much you can hate on the new or next welder..
