Roadside Encounter with Godzilla -- Fan Animation

One idea for this animation was to attempt to portray how unsettling it would be to come across a giant monster in a mundane manner and how it could lead to a horrible death. The horror-angle didn't quite work though, because Godzilla would probably not care about attacking a single non-threatening human individual. Therefor I added a surprise guest monster to make Godzilla more active, and because so many comments have been asking for more monster fights. First I wanted to use one of the monsters from the 1978 or 1998 cartoon shows, but I ended up picking an unused preliminary transforming Heisei Mechagodzilla design because it was easier to model, had more varied attack methods, and it was fun to animate it transforming. This design was based on a sketch by Ryu Hariken, I stylized it a bit and shrunk it down to 50 meters. There are several transforming MG concept designs, I chose this one because it was the simplest and most of its details would be hidden by darkness, the environment and dust anyway.

I apologize for the darkness and the rendering artifacts present in the video. The idea was to have a moody night scene with deep shadows and a variety of light effects where the POV human character can't make out all the details of what's going on around him. Some of the effects worked, others are a little rough.

The sheer sense of scale in this is so insane, I love it! The reveal of both weapons becoming Mechagodzilla was so clever too! Adore how animalistic you made Godzilla act and move, wonderful job as always!

Awesome video! I do enjoy your parodies a lot, but I just have a softspot for the more serious takes on the characters, even with horror elements or just straight up brawls.

Holy crap this is amazing! I love this version of Mechagodzilla and the POV shorts of people running into Godzilla are probably my favorite Godzilla fan content right now. Have you considered doing any with other monsters, maybe Mothra or something?

The messy and chunky movement that you gave to mechagoji really adds him a lot of personality, it's the perfect mix between cartoony and realistic machinery.
