Nokia's flip phone is great. This is a model packed with charm. I'm a Japanese essayist. It's called mikan oshidari(忍足みかん🍊). I have published a book called [I want to stop being a slave to my smartphone]. I switched to a flip phone because of my smartphone addiction. It's for mental health. It's comfortable to use as a flip phone. But I'm worried about what will happen if flip phones are no longer manufactured due to smartphones. So I'm happy to hear about Nokia's flip phone. Although you can't buy Nokia in Japan. But if flip phones become popular overseas, that wave will probably come to Japan as well. I look forward to that. Flip phones also allowed young Americans to watch the news. I want flip phones to become more popular.

I have been using several nokia with kaios for almost a year now. In the long run you go crazy. All phones freeze even for the most basic functions like using the phone book. People buy a phone like this so as not to be a slave to technology. But if the phone doesn't work you become a slave in another way..

Informative, simple, to-the-point, everything I want out of a review video. I just ordered mine off eBay yesterday and cannot wait for it to arrive!

I appreciate the quality of your content, especially given that it applies to a very niche audience. Great channel my brother 💪🏽🇺🇸😊

Having used my Nokia 2720 Flip 4G for the past 18 months, I can safely skip Nokia 2780 Flip 4G and look forward to their new flip phone coming in 2024.

I ordered this 3 months ago on eBay for $91 USD and I am using it here in Canada on the Freedom network but with the Nationwide access I am often on Rogers or Telus with no problems. No issues at all with functionality, and I really like the call quality as well as USB C charging. With KaiOS I can get basic Google maps when needed. I use the browser to save my Facebook Messenger onto the home screen. Allows instant access though it obviously doesn't send notifications. Photos are actually quite good in well-lit conditions and I transfer from the device using Bluetooth. I often use the WiFi Hotspot feature to connect my tablet or computer. As an older person, I really like T9. I actually prefer it to touchscreen keyboards!

ADVERTISEMENTS? IN THE OS? From what looked like the perfect phone to break away from the digital life... this is a joke

Honestly looks like a great phone to give to my grandparents, handing them a regular smartphone was my big mistake lmao

It’s so sad to me because Nokia is my favorite brand but kaios spamming me on my Nokia 6300 has me looking for other options in hardware and software. Thank you for the thorough review as always.

A customizable key is always nice, especially when you want to fast call for an emergency.

Great that your channel is dedicated to dumbphones & thank-you for this review. I'm glad to see KaiOS developing & improving as a year ago I thought it might die off. This phone looks almost perfect for me. I purchased a new Motorola E30 smartphone (£90) earlier this year as my old phone died & I didn't feel KaiOS was quite there yet, but my 10 month old Motorola is glitching & becoming temperamental already so I'm eyeing up a possible replacement like this. Hopefully Nokia bring it to Europe soon.

For those who want to minimize their smartphone usage, don’t throw your smartphone. Instead, use the parental controls and lock it with password that you don’t know. Make someone you trust that will not forget it or let him write it down on a paper and store it in your desk or any accessible place. Block all apps except for the essential ones like phone, sms, maps, camera etc. This is much more convenient since your smartphone will be smoother than any feature phone. As long as you have sms, phone calls and maps, you can do any thing you want. Use your laptop for everything else.

KaiOS recommendations. It doesn’t have Spotify or anything like that, but it does have apps like Mocha Radio and Radio Waves which allows you to stream the radio/other internet stations. I use it over the actual FM radio just because it sounds better and it has nearly all local stations.

Excellent review, Jose! Finally a Nokia device with group texts and hotspot AND it works on VZW networks. Maybe if I can get rid of my 6400 4G I'll pickup one of these.

I always (lately) keep a work/back up flip.Been using an Alcatel Trac fone flip. It's a $20 burner. Using KaiOS system is good enough for back up. I am going pro active getting a Nokia 2780 which seller says uses Tracfone . Will need their Sim card for sure.

I was looking on the Nokia website and I saw this, I didn't really see many reviews and I didn't know it was brand new. So I discover your channel through it, And I'm actually thinking about getting this or the 2720. Maybe even OG 3310, just a simple phone for calls and text, plus Nokia makes some okay phones and some bizarre ones too lol

Thank you for this. I have subscribed because I think your site is likely to be the best for tracking the much needed improvements to KaiOS.
I have a 2780. It replaced my ancient 2270 a few months ago when my antique charge hole became defective. Not bad for 20 years but it was made in Finland and now Nokias are made in the far east.
I miss the low battery warning of the old Nokia and have to say that the 2780 with KaiOS has very poor battery life, even with little use. The old Nokia would hold a charge for 4 to 5 days but the 2780 depletes in less than 2 and occasionally I go to answer a call and see a notice "In low battery mode". This necessitates a few minutes charging to take the call then getting to full charge is about 30 mins. Mine here in Ireland is not USB C.
The old phone and my moody Doro used to show a message waiting icon on the external screen whereas the new one has to be opened and checked. As a phone hater this is not good because it rather like waking up one of the damned smartphones my daughters keep giving me when they upgrade. As a matter of fact I am more than computer savvy and specialize in data recovery as a pension supplement [odd occupation for a retired psychologist] BUT my dislike of smartphones has many causes, not just the addiction element but much more the sealed batteries rendering devices always on in some way or another. Accordingly I keep my own smart phones and those I repair for neighbours in a lead-lined wooden box which belonged to my sailor uncle and the 4 which are mine have dead flat batteries. I keep a Moto 13 in my car just in case of emergency and it is quite good for location but it never comes into the house.

The Nokia 2780 would be a rather good dumb phone with better battery life via making KaiOS easier to make 'bare bones', which I hope they will do at long last. Dumb phones are for basic communication and a selection of items the target market of older people (often with some age related audio and visual impairments and sometimes creaky hand joints) thus adding features is the antithesis of necessity.
Many elderly people are competent with smart phones but do not want to carry them around and be mugged in the cities. Few street thieves would snatch a dumb phone.

KaiOS looks much faster now. Shame there are no KaiOS 3.1 devices in the UK. Also the non-availabity of WhatsApp is a downer.
