Zelensky Presents Victory Plan As Putin Threatens Nuclear War

Zelensky hopes to gather support in the US as Putin issues nuclear threats.

It's a bit of a tense time around the war in Ukraine as heads of state arrive in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly. Right now Russia is on a steady advance in eastern Ukraine but just this week President Putin issued a change to the Russian nuclear doctrine that lowered the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons. The move appears to be in anticipation of, or in hopes of averting, western approval for Ukraine to use their weapons to strike inside of Russia. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky is in the US drumming up support for his plan to end the war in Ukrainian terms. A big part of that is likely to include permission to strike deeper inside of Russia.

If we follow Russia's logic, then the Russian piloted, Iranian made Saheed drones 'crashing' into Romania, Poland would be an act of war by Iran. North Korean missiles and ammunition used against Ukraine would be an act of war of North-Korea. Chinese equipment used against Ukraine would be an act of war by China. Simply put; Ukraine has every right to defend itself against Russian aggression. By any weapon it sees fit. Regardless who made these weapons. If Russia chooses to use foreign equipment, bought on the International market or supplied by its allies, then so be it too. Sanctions may follow. But it will be no more than that against North-Korea or China or Iran. It is an equal level playing field.

While I highly doubt the RU nuclear forces are exempt from poor maintenance, its important to remember that standards are not uniform across a military. The Russian surface navy rusts away and only small ships are being built, but the Russian subs are kept in far better operating status and building new submarines continues at a reasonable rate.
