I just had to replace the output shaft seals in my starboard 150 FICTH, amazing how well that simple seal design keeps the water out and holds pressure. glad it was just a simple seal and didn't have to get into the gears, I can't set the lash on a car, much less on a boat.

I was told I need to have my gearcase shimmed due to wear, the play on the prop is too high (Back and forth), now I understand. Thank you.

Ug... no worse job than setting lash on anything with beveled gears. Doesn't matter if it's a boat lower unit or truck differential... doing it correctly requires A LOT of assembly/disassembly and measuring and usually special tools. Truly a PITA.

This fall my F25TLRD started gear whining from from the lower unit I suspected. Upon oil change, it was confirmed the oil was low, it had water in it, and there was lots of metal fragments stuck on the drain plug. So I'll be attempting to open up the lower unit to look at what sort of destruction happened. Depending on what bearings and/or gears need to be changed, would I need to gap and change the shims too?

I have tech question . I have a 2014 tohotsu 250 . The lower unit gets water in it. I have pressure tested it and it does not leak air out, but after I run it in the water, water gets into the gear box. One other strange thing is the gear box gets pressurized. What do you think would pressurize the gear box? Exhaust pressure?
