For those who don't want to depend on a website to convert these files, GIMP can export .png files as .ico files...works great, and you can do this offline.

First, WHY is the background music so annoying LOUD? It distracts from hearing and listening to you.

Second, this works but I lose the transparency of the icon background. Is there away around that? The original image is PNG with a transparent background. Using this method, I get a message that saving as 24 bit bitmap will lose the transparency.

Very helpful and simple. I like that it requires no special software (I don't count Window's Paint as special). A tip to the video creator: your background music volume is so high that it competes with what you're saying, making it hard to hear at times. Thanks for the tutorial.
