I think that's a sign of a typical chemical reaction between baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice

You pour the acidic base into water and dilute it FIRST and the run it over your hair and repeat as necessary. The acid can destroy your hair. Just FYI.

This is silly. Vinegar and baking soda always react this way, including on freshly cleaned hair. I pour vinegar and soda down all of my drains each month and to clean calcium build up in coffee maker.

I had locs a decade and never “detoxed” them once because I didn’t have a so-called location intent on using a bunch of gels and other garbage products to start or maintain them. How that became the mainstream of loc maintenance I’ll never know but you don’t need all that garbage in your locs leading to build up so you have to go for a detox!

I just use ACV, no baking soda. Helps balance the PH on my scalp whenever I have any issues with dandruff

Just my opinion, I would have placed all that in the water & soaked my scalp & locs. Hopefully moisture is restored so it doesn't break/fall.

There is shampoo called Locs AVC and it works wonders on buildup.

I'm afraid to do this.
Did it many years ago when my hair was limp and it broke off!
Left me with such a bad state of hair that I had to cut it off evenly to like half an inch.
Still don't know what went wrong but now I won't believe anything on Youtube.

Using Dawn soap helps me a lot. You don’t have to worry about hurting your neck or getting horizontal just to deep clean. I do at least a couple lathers and rinses to be sure my buildup is taken care of. I also stay completely away from cream based leave ins, heavy gels, and stick to oils and liquid solutions and serums. Anyone wondering about dryness after using Dawn, plz incorporate hot oil treatments into your regimen. Also, PLZZ INVEST IN HYALURONIC ACID FOR YOUR LOCS OR EDGES; it’s doing wonders for my hair after I’ve experienced loc root breakage during the solidifying portion of my journey.

Speaking on hyaluronic acid, immediately after your cleanse, spritz a mixture of 2 parts hyaluronic acid to 3 parts water to DAMPEN your hair, then get some JBCastor Oil, some rosemary oil, and some peppermint or rose hip oil, apply generously to locs. APPLY JUST CASTOR OIL TO SCALP ONLY TO AVOID OTHER OILS INTERACTING TOO MUCH WITH SEBUM PRODUCTION. Wrap DAMP (not drenched) and generously oiled hair to create some natural humidity and heat. Do not rinse out your oils until it’s time for your next wash day!

I usually leave my oil treatment wrapped up for about a half hour to an hour depending on time, then release and let air dry.
